We continue with the special dedicated to Internet Explorer 10 The new version of the browser has the ability to run with the Modern UI interface on Windows 8 if it is the default browser, and with a classic interface in both Windows 8 and Windows 7, although in the latter case we still do not have the final version. Given the part concerning the Modern UI interface, we will now deal with the classic desktop version

Basic Controls

The first impression after running Internet Explorer 10 with the classic interface is that almost nothing has changed compared to Internet Explorer 9If we are in Windows 8 the initial differences are a consequence of the disappearance of Aero Glass. All programs running in the classic environment now look flatter, and the browser is no exception.

Save the distances imposed by the new aspect, in the upper part and starting from the left we see the same navigation buttons for the history: the big one to go back and the small one to go forward. The search box is practically the same, with a space reserved for the representation of the favicon , a good section to consign URLs and several controls.

This is where we can see the first difference with Internet Explorer 9. While in the old version we have four visible controls, in Internet Explorer 10 there are only threeHidden controls, such as Go To , and Compatibility View , are left out at this time.We'll come back to them later.

Which one is missing? Actually none. While in IE-9 the reload and interrupt load controls are differentiated (arrow in a circle that closes on itself and cross respectively), in IE-10 they are the same button but with contextual function The interrupt button appears only while a web page is loading.

Until all elements are completed and represented, it will be visible. Once the upload is complete, its function is no longer necessary. It is then when disappears giving way to the reload control which does make sense in this context. It is a subtle difference, but the matter is better resolved in my opinion. Nothing is shown that is not necessary, following the minimalist philosophy of Windows 8.

Tab Management

After the search box are the tabs.When starting both versions of the browser we will obtain in a tab the page that we have configured as home page, and a control in the form of a blank tab fraction, which will show an icon (blank page with a “plus” sign), when we hover the mouse pointer over it.

This control is used to access the new tab page Here there is also a small difference between Internet Explorer 9 and 10. In the old version we will see the text Your most popular sites , and in the modern one a simple More frequently . Minimalism is present even for phrases.

The rest of the new tab page is pretty much the same, with 10 possible thumbnails of the sites we visit most frequently, and various controls in the form of a link to handle sessions and inPrivate browsing .In IE-10 they have also “saved” the little icon that preceded the “Detect other sites you might like” control, the little white bulb on an orange background.

Home, bookmarks and settings

Finally, and located completely to the right of the tabs, we have three controls that don't change in both versions, although some of them do the functions to which they give access: Home, Favorites and Settings (home, star and cogwheel respectively). The first two do not undergo any modification from one version to another. The third yes.

In Internet Explorer 9 we have a control to add site to the start menu in Settings » File . In Internet Explorer 10 this control disappears, leaving the File menu with one less option (5 items in total).

However, the disappearance is only partial, since Internet Explorer 10 adds one more item to the configuration menuIf it's Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7, the option is called the same as before: Add site to start menu. The new location is between the item “Security” and “View downloads”.

In Windows 8, the option is called Add place to start screen , with same place as above. Its activation places a shortcut to the chosen website on the mosaic screen.

As for the menu that is displayed when you click the top bar with the right button, and that gives access to the customization options Of the different toolbars and handling of the browser window, nothing has changed between one version and another of the product.
