Bing gains a strategic position with Facebook and its 'Graph Search'
Bing has been collaborating with Facebook for a couple of years and serving as a search engine for the social network. At the same time, Microsoft's search engine takes advantage of its users' information to improve search results by adding a social layer. As of yesterday, after the presentation of the new 'Graph Search' on Facebook, that relationship is significantly strengthened.
Facebook's new function, still in testing, allows its users to search among the content shared on the social network and the billions of connections that they store in their databases. For now the search is limited to a series of categories that the Zuckerbergers have indexed: people, photos, places or interests. Everything else, search outside the limits of Facebook, is provided by Bing
Engineers from both companies have been working together to unify the browser experience. The goal is to make the search action always provide a result appropriate to the terms used. In this way, as soon as what we are looking for is outside the social network, we will be shown the results of a normal web search
When carrying out said external search we will be shown a page of results provided by Bing It will be divided into two columns. The left column will show the results in the form of links in the traditional way, incorporating social content obtained from Facebook itself. In the one on the right we can find, together with the announcements, information from pages and applications of the social network that are related to our search.
Without a doubt, it is a great step for the Redmond search engine in its struggle to wrest some market from Google. With 'Graph Search', it is expected that searches within Facebook will increase considerably, and, collaterally, so will those of Bing, by acting as external search engine for the billion users of the social network
But for now, 'Graph Search is in closed testing period and only for the United States Once again on everything related to Bing, although this time it is not your fault, we will have to wait for the service to leave the borders of the North American country to see the fruits of the growing relationship between Microsoft and Facebook on our screens.
