Bing redesigns its Social Sidebar and adds personalities and places to its results
Last May, Bing redesigned its results page with a new three-column division to bring more content to our searches. The middle column served to provide us with additional information related to what we were looking for, while the one on the far right provided results in relation to the people we were following and experts on the subject of the search. You may not be aware of this because the new features have not yet been rolled out outside of the United States.
But while the rest of us wait, Microsoft continues trying to improve its search engineNow they have added new categories to the information provided by the central column. After studying during numerous tests what people are looking for, they have determined that the search for famous personalities or prominent places are two of the most requested things. That's why they decided to add these two new categories to the central column
When searching for the person's name, the column will display relevant data about his or her biography or work obtained by the search engine's crawlers. If, for example, we search for the name of an actor, the central column will show us the latest films in which he has participated and will give us the possibility of viewing their trailers with a single click. If our search refers to places or sites of interest, what we will obtain is a brief description of them as well as their main data obtained from web pages such as Wikipedia.
To accompany these new features, the Bing team has also redesigned its Social Sidebar This search engine's social bar provides relevant information shared by our friends or recognized experts in the field. It differed from searches thanks to its gray background, which it now abandons in favor of greater integration with the rest of the page, giving greater importance to visual content.
In summary, new functionalities and redesigns of the Microsoft search engine that clearly respond to what Google offers with its Knowledge Graph and its integration with Google+. The only "but" is the big problem that Bing has been suffering from for a long time: many of its functions are only accessible from the United States The rest of the countries will have to follow waiting to be able to test them.
