Windows Phone grew in the markets in February 2017 but will this trend continue or will it be an isolated case?

A few days ago we told how Microsoft made public the list of terminals that were available to update to Windows 10 Creators Update from April 25th. Few terminals but the list of options to expand it is not very extensive either. And those that remain outside have provoked the anger of their owners.

On the other hand, we saw how after diving through the four major telephone operators in Spain, it was almost impossible to get hold of a phone under Windows. Only at Vodafone and for customers was the option of getting a Lumia 550 available, a situation that together with the previous puts on the table the very delicate situation that the platform is going through

And this is something that we do not say for fun but is confirmed again by means of numbers thanks to the latest study leaked by the analysis firm Kantar, which puts manifested as Windows on mobile phones, although it is experiencing increases in some markets, it continues to offer a delicate situation if we make a comparison with the figures from a year ago.

And it is that after a month of January in which the figures were bad, the data related to the month of February have been published in which growth is appreciated that although modest, it can give us some hope Some data that, however, contrast with those of the other two platforms, iOS and Android, with an abysmal difference.

The problem with Windows is that there are no phones on the market and worse, there is no hope of seeing new releases any time soon , something that makes buyers lose interest in a platform. But let's face the problem with market figures.

If we look at January for comparison, Windows Phone is experiencing more or less similar numbers in almost every country. Thus we see how in Spain, remains with a meager 0.4% of the market (Android for its part rises from 89.4% to 92.2% and iOS falls from 10.2% to 7.4%).

If we look at the Asian continent, in Japan, the decrease is from 1.5% to 1.3% while in China rises from 0.1% to 0.2% Going further south to Oceania, we see how in Australia, the market share for 1.0% to 0.7%

In America, however, we observe how increases in the United States, with a rise that goes from 1.3% to 1.7% , as in Mexico, where it went from 1.1% to 1.4%.

In Europe we see how in Great Britain the platform is also growing timidly, going from 1.9% to 2.1 %, as in Germany where it goes from 2.9% to 3.0%.While, in France it falls from 2.8% to 2.4%, in Italy (one of the countries with the greatest presence) it falls from 4.4% to 4.3%.

We see how unlike other months, Windows Phone has experienced slight growth in some markets if we compare it with sales in January of this yearA good trend can be thought... but let's compare the figures with those registered in February but of 2016.

The situation compared to January 2016

In the case of Spain it fell from 0.9% to 0.4%, a moderate decrease that contrasts with the wild fall from France, where it went from 7.4% to 2.4%, from Great Britain where it went from 6.2% to 2.1% or from Australia, where it went from 5.8% to 2.1%,

In general, and the table shows, only Japan and if we compare the annual period, it has been a salvation table for the platform , since it has gone from having 0.5% a year ago to having 1.3% in 2017.

As we can see, the fall is general in almost all markets, well, all except one, if we compare the figures with those of a few years ago year. In the opposite case we can say that there is the monthly comparison if we take the month of January, where the fall is not so pronounced and is more, although the presence is timidly increasing in some countries.

And so we come to the final question. _What option do you have when defining the state of Windows? With the glass half full considering the growth of the last month or are you realistic and think that the situation can no longer be reversed and there is only one possible end?_

What does seem to be clear is that the days are long gone when we saw Windows Phone as a fresh and dynamic alternative to iOS and AndroidWe will have to wait and see how the market evolves in March and if growth continues or, on the contrary, it has been a flash in the pan.
