Design
The Nokia Lumia 630 is a terminal that follows the general line to which we Finns have become accustomed, with a modern and colorful design. The back cover is interchangeable, being able to choose between five colors: black, white, yellow, orange and green that you can see in the images that accompany this analysis.
"The material chosen for the manufacture of the casing is polycarbonate, which is a resistant material and does not leave a mobile phone feeling of plastic>"
Regarding the size of the terminal, we are facing dimensions of 129.5 × 66.7 × 9.2 millimeters with a total weight of 134 grams ( casing included). This makes it a larger phone than the Nokia Lumia 620, although thinner, with a similar weight in both cases, achieving a feeling of lightness when holding it in the hand but at the same time robust.
One thing to note with this particular model is that does not have a camera button, which will become a negative or irrelevant aspect depending on each one. In my case, it didn't matter much to me since I don't usually take pictures often, but when you go to take one and you see that the button is not there, you think, why isn't it there?
To solve this, in the notification center quick actions bar the camera has been included by default as one of the four which come by default. This forces us to navigate to this section every time we want to use the camera, unless we pin its Live Tile to the home screen. Personally, I am not completely convinced, although each one will see it in their own way.
The corners of the terminal are softened with rounded edges, a rather nice detail unlike the sharp corners of the Nokia Lumia 520.The sides of the phone are not flat, but instead have a slight inclination that makes it impossible to place it upright or on its side on a flat surface, unless we use some type of of support.
The 3.5mm audio output is located on the top of the phone and to the left, like other Lumia's in the same price range.
At the bottom we find the microUSB connection to charge the phone or connect it to the PC. The Nokia Lumia 630 allows us to choose if we want to make a PC-mobile connection each time we connect it via USB cable, in case we simply want to charge it without the window with all the files on the phone and its microSD.
The phone will also notify us when we have connected it to an electrical outlet or USB connection that is not capable of delivering all the energy necessary for the phone to charge at full capacity.
Screen
The screen of the Nokia Lumia 630 is a 4.5-inch IPS LCD with Clearblack and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, which ensures a almost total resistance to breakage by blows. It has a resolution of 854x480 pixels with a density of 221PPI, which is not very high and if we compare it with other competitive terminals that play on the same price range, we will see how these values are surpassed without problem.
Although the screen manages to show the colors in a way that is realistic, very pleasant and warm to the eye; and has a high contrast and deep blacks, the pixel density plays against it. At times we may notice some pixelation on the screen, especially when we are reading text, which although it is not exaggerated, is noticeable if we pay attention.
But even taking all this into account, and that on paper it is behind other terminals in the same price range, I have to say that in general terms the screen surprises and ends up looking better than many of the competition.
If we talk about the viewing angle, the Nokia Lumia 630 does not disappoint, since we can view the screen from almost all angles without loss color. Even when looking directly to the side and looking up a few degrees from the phone, we still see the screen acceptably.
At the bottom of the screen we will find the buttons back, start and search of Windows Phone. It is important to emphasize that are inside the screen and not outside like the rest of the terminals, which ends up stealing a bit of space when viewing content.
Here is another aspect that does not convince me, and that is that for example when we play video in full screen this bar is not hidden In Some applications do disappear until we touch the screen, but not in one as important as the video player.
This only causes that when you are watching a video you will have two small black lines at the top and bottom of the image (if the phone is in landscape), since the video can't fit full screen because of the available width, and in order not to alter the aspect ratio it also reduces the height of the video.
About the brightness of the screen, we can choose if we want the level to be low, medium or high, but this phone does not have the option to adjust the brightness automatically auto Brightness can only be controlled manually, except when battery saver is activated, which sets it to minimum.
Performance and Battery
Performance on Windows Phone is usually not a problem, and if we're talking about the Nokia Lumia 630 it's almost unnecessary to talk about it. Nothing unusual if we take into account that it mounts a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor at 1.2 GHz, which allows both the operating system and its components to function with total fluidity. Applications.
Which by the way, in relation to its operating system, this is the first phone that comes with Windows Phone 8.1 installed from the factory. From this point on, all future Windows Phones will come with this version installed, while the rest of us are still waiting for the possibility of downloading the final version, which should be almost there.
But although the phone offers impressive performance, sometimes applications can take time to load, especially if we have several open, since this terminal only has 512 MB of memory RAMAs for internal storage, we have 8 GB that can be expanded by means of a micro SD of up to 128 GB
The removable battery of the Nokia Lumia 630 is 1830 mAh, offering during the time I had it up to a day and a half maximumYes, it is either a coincidence or it seems that this terminal does not suffer from the battery problems that many of you have reported in comments on other articles (perhaps because it comes with Windows Phone 8.1 out of the box).
Camera
The rear camera of the Nokia Lumia 630 is 5 megapixel with autofocus, and a sensor size of 1/4, together to a 4x digital zoom that ends up being almost useless (don't even think about using it unless you want a blurry image). We cannot expect incredible results, rather we are dealing with a camera that will offer us average quality results.
There is no front camera, and the rear one does not have any type of flash, since in this terminal the camera is an element to which not much importance has been given, as we can verify by the lack of a physical button for the shutter release, as I mentioned before.
Taking a picture takes approximately two seconds from the end of autofocus until the image is saved in the terminal, somewhat I don't quite understand since the Nokia Lumia 520, for example, takes much less time.
Basically, with this camera we can take pictures without zooming in and get good results, but the moment we try to apply any magnification we start to noticeably lose definition. The same happens if instead of doing it from the camera, we decide to crop the image on our PC and increase a specific section.
As usual with low-quality sensors like this, much of the work is done by the phone post-processing the images, and there's nothing to criticize here. The results offered by exceed those obtained with the cameras of a Motorola Moto G and Moto E, to give examples of the competition.
Regarding the video function of the camera, it is capable of recording at a maximum resolution of 720p with a rate of images per second of 24, 25 or 30 maximum.
Conclution
The Nokia Lumia 630 is a good mobile phone in general terms, but there are some aspects that may set you back when it comes to choose it over other options. For example, the lack of a flash and no physical camera button make this a poor option if you like to take pictures from time to time.
The screen is not the best of its range and the most demanding users with image quality will see this as a very negative point. It's not that it looks bad obviously, but for example in the text of some Live Tiles you can notice a slight pixelation if you look closely, or in some web pages.
When playing video or viewing images, however, the screen performs impressively, with some really vivid colors and good contrasts , with a very wide viewing angle without loss of definition.
This, together with the built-in speaker, mean that when watching videos on this terminal you don't have any complaints in terms of image or sound quality. There are also no problems when making calls, since on both speakers the sound is clear and without distortion even at maximum volume.
The performance of this mobile is also quite high, a result of combining Windows Phone 8.1 next to a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor. Perhaps it would have been better to have at least 1 GB of RAM, but even so I have had almost no complaints on this aspect.
