It's official. After many weeks of rumors, leaked photos, oversights and some hint from Nokia, the Nokia Lumia 928 has finally been announced, whose main improvement over the 920 is the design and the improved multimedia (camera, video, sound) capabilities, and that will arrive at the US operator Verizon on May 16.

The Lumia 928 is Nokia's next flagship phone, although luckily it doesn't bring so many changes that we can say that the 920 has become obsolete. Let's see what it offers us.

Nokia Lumia 928, design

As rumored, the Lumia 928 is slimmer and boxier than the 920 . We don't have exact numbers, but seeing it in pictures is absolutely great. The screen is 4.5-inch OLED, 1280x768 pixels and 334 ppi density. Physically it has a slight bevel and ends right at the edge, perfectly straight.

The rear part also changes, with a huge speaker at the bottom, the hole for the larger camera and a nice flash that we will see in the next section. And, as it could not be less, it also has wireless charging without the need for additional covers.

Multimedia comes first

One of the strongest points of Nokia Lumia phones is multimedia. We saw it when we reviewed the Nokia Lumia 920, with an impressive camera, though the sound system wasn't that great. In this case, both aspects have improved, and on paper it looks very good.

The camera is PureView with optical image stabilization and Carl Zeiss optics, 8.7 megapixels, 26mm and f/2.0. Also, the xenon flash is a real bonus for those who want to get the most out of mobile photography (for video there will be an LED flash).

The audio section is also taken care of: three High Audio Amplitude Capture (HAAC) microphones that will capture high-quality sound without distortions. And to reproduce it, the rear speaker that can reach up to 140 dB of sound. It remains to be seen if it does so while maintaining minimal quality, but for now it is very promising.

The rest of the specifications, (almost) the same as the Lumia 920

The Nokia Lumia 928 is quite similar to the 920: 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor, 1GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory with no possibility of expansion. As for the battery, we have 2000 mAh, the same as in the 920.

Nokia Lumia 928, price and availability

The Nokia Lumia 928 will be available starting May 16 from Verizon Wireless, a US operator, for $100 plus a two-year contract. From the looks of it, it will be exclusive to Verizon and will not reach more countries nor can it be purchased free (at least officially).
