Nokia's latest Windows Phone 8, the Lumia 620, has been unveiled unannounced at the Le Web conference. We have followed it live, and we have also been able to test it to get a first impression of the device.

Removing the casing was not an easy task.

The Lumia 620 is a mobile that jumps when you see it. The double color cases look really good, and the 3D effect is curious. We have been able to see all the combinations (lime green, orange, magenta, yellow, cyan, black and white) and I can tell you that Nokia has done a good design job on this theme.Of course, I will still be waiting for a fluorescent casing.

To remove the casing and access the insides of the phone you have to make a somewhat strange movement, pressing the center of the phone and lifting the sides. In addition to the fact that you run the risk of dropping the phone if you are a bit handy like me, over time you could end up deforming the case.

Once the case is lifted, we have the battery and the space for the microSD card. The SIM is accessed by removing the battery and moving a small tab, as you can see in the photo. The truth is that it is appreciated having the battery accessible to be able to change it, and especially the fact of being able to load an additional microSD and expand the phone's space.

Lumia 620, small and light

Reuniting the family.

Size-wise, it's only slightly shorter than the Lumia 800, but with a more rounded shape it's more ergonomic and more comfortable to hold in the hand. And it is very light: 127 grams with battery included, very comfortable to wear. The only bad point of this aspect, the thickness. You can tell that interchangeable covers are not exactly the best for a slim phone.

Where I have found it a little less careful is on the screen: although it makes good use of all the space, it has been a bit difficult for me to handle since it is completely flat and does not have any type of bevel. Maybe it's a personal impression, or that I'm very used to the curvature of the 800. I have no complaints in terms of color and brightness: Nokia has achieved a screen as good as in the entire Lumia range.

I can't speak much about the performance of the phone because what we have tested has been a prototype. It has not hung or anything, but there was a certain delay in the tactile response and when opening the odd application. But don't worry, we have asked and they have told us that the final version will work perfectly, like all Windows Phones.

We don't have much to say about the camera either: it wasn't the best conditions to test it and we haven't spent too much time on it either. Of course, from the little I've seen it doesn't seem like anything bad is going to go wrong .

Conclusions: Nokia's best mid-range

Color is one of the strongest points of the Lumia 620.

After messing around with this phone for a while, I can say that it is the best mid-range Nokia could do. Much more than enough power inside, a very attractive and curious design (remember that many people care more about having a colorful phone than having one with several cores) and a really aggressive price.

Let's remember: it's 269 euros that, with operator contracts, will probably appear free. And unlike the entry-level Android (the main competition), Windows Phone ensures impeccable performance and reliability .

In the absence of more time and peace of mind to be on the phone, I have to say that I really liked it. Of course, it won't make me forget about the 920, but it's a phone that should be taken into account if we want something more modest. Too bad we don't have it until after Christmas .
