Intel could get off the Augmented Reality bandwagon by canceling its own version of Google Glass
One of the fashionable concepts. One of the trends that we are going to hear about the most in the year that we are about to begin. Augmented, Mixed or Virtual Reality are names that are intermingled and on which the big technology companies have set their sights.
We see well-known firms such as HP, Lenovo, Acer, Samsung or Microsoft itself allocate part of the investment to create products in the form of helmets or glasses, many of which already have an operational version on the market or about to reach itAnd yes, it is true that it is still a technology that is green, but that is one more factor that makes the case of Intel call our attention, one of the big ones that for now is getting off the wagon, at least apparently.
And according to Bloomberg, Intel has decided to end the Recon brand, a firm that the American company acquired in 2015 and that it was specialized in the creation of glasses for the use of Virtual Reality. A setback that may have led to the cancellation of the products they had in development.
Intel has apparently finished with the company, leaving the jobs of the 100 employees that Recon had in the air, and incidentally would leave the glasses on the eaves that with clear inspiration in Google Glass, they were developing.
A pair of glasses for Augmented Reality that had a screen and a small CPU equipped with Android integrated into the temple next to the earphone that It allowed the use of different sensors and geolocation functions.
However, from Intel they assure that they will continue working on technologies related to Virtual and Augmented Reality, regardless of the temporary situation that may be living Recon.
On October 17 we will see new products (or at least that is what we hope) related to Virtual or Augmented Reality. We know that proposals will arrive from HP and Samsung and we don't know what other surprises we can find, novelties among which everything indicates we will not see anything from Intel.
