Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter
Table of contents:
Redmond have just announced the launch of an accessory that was already rumored a few days ago: the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter , a Miracast adapter to transmit to screens and monitors that do not have support for this standard. But contrary to what the leaks said at the time, this is not a dedicated adapter for the Surface Pro 3, but is compatible with any PC, smartphone or tablet enabled to stream with Miracast
To use it, we simply have to connect the adapter to the HDMI and USB ports of the monitor to which we want to project, then select the corresponding input on the screen, and finally start to transmit from the tablet, smartphone, or PC that we want. The connection to the USB port is necessary to supply power to the device, but if our screen does not have USB, Microsoft also includes a USB power adapter
If our tablet or PC running Windows 8.1 supports Mirecast and we have installed the August update, we should be able to stream just by going to the Devices charm > Project, then click Add Wireless Display and pair the device with the adapter. Later we return to the same menu, and we choose the way in which we want to project the screen (duplicate, extend, etc). In Windows Phone 8.1 you can project by going to Settings > Project my screen."
The main difference between this accessory and the Microsoft Screen Sharing HD-10 for Lumia phones presented at IFA 2014 is that, as noted above, it is intended to work with any device, not just Lumia phones, so it does away with NFC pairing, saving us $20 on price.
The Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter is now available for pre-order in the United States at a price of $59. Unfortunately, there is still no information on its pricing and availability in other markets.
