Charge your mobile wirelessly in your pants pocket

Who has not felt frustrated when, at the most inopportune moment, we find that the mobile phone battery is low on charge ? And if we also don't have a charger or plug at hand, the situation can become very uncomfortable.

A quick and relatively simple solution is to carry an additional external battery, to make an emergency charge that allows us to continue using our Smartphone.

Based on this idea, British designer Adrien Sauvage has designed and made pants that allow this load to be carried out in a discreet and efficient way .

He has a Nokia DC-50 in his pants

Nokia has implemented wireless power capability in most models of the Lumia range - like many other manufacturers - following the Qi interface, standard developed by the Wireless Power Consortium for the transfer of electrical energy by induction over distances of up to 4 cm.

Among the rechargers that the Nordic manufacturer has developed, Adrien Sauvage has chosen the DC-50 model to integrate it into the pants so that the mobile can be recharged in the front pocket in a natural way, totally integrated on the garment.

Specifically introduced to be used with the Nokia 930, by adding a third front pocket where the wireless charger is neatly hidden and where the Smartphone is inserted for power.

I find two drawbacks to this “invention”: the first is the price of each pair of pants is around $340 - a DC -50 is over €60 -, the second is the 150 grams that I have to carry permanently with me.

I'm also curious about how I'm going to be able to put such an electronic tablet in the washing machine, enduring dozens of wash cycles with hot water, and without breaking due to impacts against the drum.

Or how am I going to get past the scanners at an airport or any security arch, of which there are so many currently in any building, without being able to place the battery on the tray.

In addition, for a tenth of that price I can buy an external battery that recharges my mobile via USB cable, with the same capacity of storage (2500 mA) and with a slightly lower weight. In fact, this is the solution I use on a daily basis.

In conclusion, I prefer to wait for the results of the efforts of the Power Matters Alliance which is focused on true wireless charging in a remote from all kinds of electrical devices, and that could eradicate in the future the bulky batteries that we have to carry around today.
