When today comes the time to do business through the network, one of the resources that offer greater comfort is the one that refers to the use of a digital certificate or digital signature A mechanism that what it does is identify us before official companies and organizations and that allows them to corroborate that we are who we say we are
A process consisting of two parts for use A first in which you follow the process that appears on the FNMT page We must proceed with the request for the certificate to later (after going to the competent office) to complete the process, download it to our computer. And once we have downloaded it, the process itself is very simple.
A process for which we can use the different browsers that the system has (Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Internet Explorer , Safari…) but that is really only useful in three. Chrome, Firefox and Explorer, because in the rest it usually gives compatibility problems, especially with the public administration.
Because of this and because Chrome and Firefox are the most used, we are going to see what is the process to work with the digital certificate in each of them .
Digital certificate in Google Chrome
Google Chrome uses the Windows certificate store, the same one used by the Internet Explorer browser. Once this caveat is made, we begin the process.
"In Google Chrome we must go to the Google Chrome Settings, for which we press the button located in the upper right area."
At this point we will see a new menu and within it we click on “Settings” to access the Google Chrome options page .
"A new window opens in which we must look for the option called Show advanced options."
A new window opens and in it we must locate the section HTTPS/SSL in which we must press thebutton Manage certificates."
In this section we can work with our certificate. From checking if it has expired or not, importing or exporting the certificates that we have installed in Chrome.
Importing the digital certificate in Google Chrome
"The first step is to press the “Import” button and thus we see how a window opens to start importing certificates. Click on the Next button:"
The system will ask us where the certificate we want to import is located (it is interesting not to have it too hidden). A file that will have the extension .p12 or .pfx.
Choose the file and button Open and then Next” ."
If it is the one that we have downloaded directly, it will install it without further ado, but if we have exported it before, the system will ask us for the password that we put in the certificate file when exporting it.
"We will have the option to not change the certificate store, set to Personal and click on the "Next" button, after which We see a window that tells us that the certificate has been imported correctly."
Export certificate
"In the case of wanting to export a certificate that we already have on our computer, the process is also very simple. We must use the option Export from the previous table."
A wizard opens asking us if we want to export with or without a password. Always choose the private key and leave the default options checked.
We will introduce the key we want and the name of the file. Be careful, the password must be memorable, as it will request it when we want to import it.
We finish the process and we already have our exported certificate.
We already have the certificate imported, exported and prepared to be used in the different procedures that we carry out with the administration or some Business. Also remember that it is a highly delicate process due to the access it gives to our data, so it is only advisable to install the digital certificate on our personal computer.
