How to use your pen tablet in Windows

The tablet is an input device capable of registering not only the coordinates where we are pressing our pen, but also the angle, pressure and distance, affecting the result that we can see in image, video or derivative editing programs
Why use a pen tablet?
The digitizing tablet has multiple uses With it we can enter all kinds of information in programs for drawing or graphics, design, embroidery and garments, from geographic information systems, to create maps and with text bases that transfer handwritten notes to documents.
In addition, the tablet can serve as an interface with manufacturing processes. A tablet can be used directly as a drawing surface, just as an artist would use their pencil or charcoal.
Regarding map applications, we can enter data depending on the point where we press on our tablet. These points are X, Y coordinates that will be recorded on the map appropriately.
One feature to note is that the pen tablet is static, not dynamic.This means that the surface of the tablet covers the real surface that we see on our monitor, whatever our resolution, which makes it a very precise and useful tool.
Installation and start-up of a digitizing tablet
Thanks to our Windows 8 system, it is very easy to connect a new plug&play device and start using it. With the digitizing tablet, depending on the brand, it will be more or less easy to install.
In principle, despite the fact that our digitizing tablet will be recognized correctly within our Windows 8 system, we must install the drivers that we indicate the manufacturer so that it works correctly on our computer.
- In the case of the tablet that we have used, a wacom bamboo pen & touch, we went to the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers compatible with Windows 8 and install them.
- Once the drivers are installed, we go to start or press the Microsoft Windows symbol on our keyboard and look for control panel Within it, click on device manager and there we can see our digitizing tablet correctly installed :
- When installing the driver, we have a specific program that allows us to configure the different characteristics of our digitizing tablet. To do this, we access the application preferences from the start panel wacom
- From this, we can configure different aspects of the digitizing tablet. In the first tab we can configure the orientation of the tablet, to be able to use it correctly being left-handed or right-handed and also, the hotkeys
- In the next tab we can configure the different options of the pencil: eraser sensitivity, traction, pen buttons, double click distance , tip sensitivity and sounds.
- Then touch options such as pointer speed, acceleration, double-tap interval, and scroll speed
- The following parameters that we can edit refer to the touch functions: what to do in case of click, right click and movements
- And finally, we can configure the popup menu:
Thanks to the simplicity of Windows 8, in two simple steps we have been able to install what is necessary to enjoy the advantages that our digitizing tablet to edit photos, create new maps or drawings and functionalities.
