Change the aesthetics of Windows 8 with custom "themes"
Table of contents:
Bored that your Windows 8 always looks the same? If you've already tried the different built-in customization options and you want to keep trying, maybe you're interested in learning about the so-called themes .
These are different cosmetic modifications to the operating system that will help us give a breath of fresh air to the original design of Windows 8. However, its operation will not be altered. We show you how to install them.
First steps…
The first thing to do before anything else is to install UltraUxThemePatcher. Windows 8 doesn't allow you to modify the system natively, so we'll need to modify some files This little installer will do it for us. We follow the steps, we restart the computer for the changes to take effect and we go to what is really important: the designs.
Choose your favorite design for Windows 8
Once we have everything ready, we only have to worry about putting all the themes that we download in the following folder: Windows > Resources > Themes. Of course, to change them we will have to do it from the "Personalization" screen of the equipment (right click on the desktop > "Personalize").
As you will be able to find hundreds of options and alternative designs by digging a bit on the net, you may be somewhat lost. Just in case, here are the two main sources to whet your appetite:
– Official Microsoft themes: On the Windows 8 website we can find a good repertoire of themes developed by Microsoft itself. If we want small changes, these combine different wallpapers with various ranges of colors. Being simple, it could be enough for many. Special mention to those specific desktop wallpapers for those who use a second screen.
– DevianART and other community topics: We can find hundreds of different designs on the Internet, but one of the best collectionsunofficial is on DevianART. Here numerous artists upload their works and in some cases the changes are really remarkable.
This is just the beginning. Advanced users will have no problem coming up with new designs and…why not? Make your own and share them with others! And you, have you customized your Windows 8?
