UL Benchmarks has officially revealed 3DMARK Port Royal, the first dedicated test exclusively for Real-Time Ray Tracing on PC, which uses Microsoft's new DirectX Raytracing (DXR) API to provide high-fidelity graphics that are impossible with standard raster graphics.

3DMark 'Port Royal' will be presented on December 8

This 3DMark benchmark will make use of reflections, shadows and a variety of other Ray Tracing effects powered by DXR, running in real time at 1440p resolution. To develop this tool, UL Benchmarks has worked with AMD, Intel, Nvidia, and other leading technology companies to create this tool, working closely with Microsoft to create a world-class DXR implementation.

Although DXR acceleration is currently only available on Nvidia's RTX series graphics cards, UL Benchmarks remains hopeful that more graphics cards will be released with DirectX Raytracing support in 2019. AMD? We'll see.

The 'Port Royal' test is a realistic and practical example of what can be expected from Ray Tracing in upcoming video games. The test runs in real time at a reasonable frame rate and a resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels.

UL Benchmark confirmed that the 3DMARK Port Royal test will be published in January 2019, but it will be seen earlier in an official presentation on December 8 at the GOC event in Galax, where the prices and the exact day on which they will be announced. The famous PC tool will come out.
