Acer Predator Cestus 500 technical characteristics
Unboxing and design
As always, we start by analyzing the product presentation, the Acer Predator Cestus 500 is presented in luxury packaging, only within reach of the best products on the market. The mouse arrives in a cardboard box, based on the colors black and greenish blue, with exceptional manufacturing and printing quality.
The box shows us a high-resolution image of the product, and details its most important characteristics, which we will point out throughout this analysis.
Once we open the box we find the Acer Predator Cestus 500 mouse, perfectly protected by several pieces of foam to prevent it from moving, in this way Acer ensures that it is not damaged during transport, and that the peripheral reaches the hands of the end user in the best possible conditions. Next to the mouse we find the documentation and the warranty card.
Now we focus our eyes on the Acer Predator Cestus 500 gaming mouse, this is made of very good quality black plastic, which allows it to offer a highly robust design while being very light. It has dimensions of 40.0 x 96.0 x 124.0 mm and a weight of 128 grams, although it seems that it can be heavy but it is quite light in general. This mouse is based on a symmetrical design, which guarantees the best user experience for both right-handed and left-handed users.
The overall design of the Acer Predator Cestus 500 is quite angular and aggressive, making it very clear that it is a product focused on gamers. In this way it is quite different from most mice on the market, which are all based on a very similar design with soft and conservative lines. The touch of the mouse is very pleasant and does not slip at all, something very important to prevent it from flying off in sudden movements.
At the top we find the two main buttons along with an additional button and the scroll wheel. The wheel is medium in size and rubberized for a perfect grip on the user's finger.
Two additional programmable buttons have been placed on both sides, this will make the mouse adapt very well to both right and left-handed users, a differentiating point, since most mice only have two buttons on the left side. The feel of these buttons is hard and firm, showing great manufacturing quality.
Acer has installed the best quality OMROM switches under all the buttons, these guarantee a useful life of at least 50 million keystrokes, which means that we have a mouse for years, no matter how intensive its use. Additionally we have the option to choose other switches by sliding the following selector:
With this we will be able to use the OMRON switches with 20 million keystrokes that are somewhat less "tense" when it comes to clicking with them.
Acer Predator Cestus 500 includes an RGB LED lighting system that includes the wheel, the brand's logo on the back and a few small areas under the main buttons. This system is highly configurable by software, we can choose between 16.8 million colors and multiple lighting effects.
The Pixart 3330 optical sensor has been placed in the lower area, the specific model is not specified but it is said to have a maximum sensitivity of 7.2000 DPI. In this lower area we also find Teflon surfers for a very smooth glide.
Finally, we see its connection cable with a length of 1.5 meters, it is a braided cable and ends in a gold-plated USB connector, to improve contact and prevent corrosion over time.
PredatorQuarterMaster software
We must download the Predator QuarterMaster application from the Acer repositories. Once the software is installed, we visualize a futuristic but very intuitive interface, yes in English. The first tab allows us to assign actions to each of the programmable buttons and assign a minimum of 5 profiles.
It also has:
- Color and effects: It allows us to customize both logo, scrooll and / or side strips with RGB lighting. We can choose between 16.8 million colors, choose various effects, brightness and speed. Sensitivity: We can select a total of three DPI presets by us (400 - 800 - 1600 DPI are the ones that come standard) and assign each one a color for quick visualization. This threshold is super safe and is the one we use for our gaming tests. Polling Rate: If we prefer we can choose between 125 Hz up to the fantastic 1000 Hz. Cutting angle: Ideal for the mouse to correct our strokes or straight movements. Calibration: Many users sin by not calibrating the mouse correctly with their mouse pad. Playing on a cloth or plastic surface is not the same. With it we can choose a profile or adjust it manually.
Final words and conclusion about Acer Predator Cestus 500
The Acer Predator Cestus 500 is the first peripheral we tested from Acer and what a good feeling it has given us! A Pixart 3330 sensor at 7, 200 DPI, we can create various profiles, 8 configurable buttons, RGB lighting, symmetrical ergonomic adjustment and double Omron switches with a life of 50M and 20M.
And the Gaming experience? I have used the mouse both in daily use and playing. In both situations it has behaved great, and it is that with PUBG or Fortnite I have come to do a good slaughter playing (considering that I am not a gaming prodigy either).
We recommend reading the best mice on the market
As we have seen the software is great and has nothing to envy to the competition. Perhaps the only "but" is that it does not include the Spanish translation, but since it is such a basic English… any user can understand it quickly.
Does the scroll sound? In general it is quite quiet and we liked that a lot. Also the omron switches are quite quiet, personally I really liked it. I hate noise and this mouse is perfectly compliant.
Its price in online stores ranges from € 89.99. It is on the average of its main competitors, so we do not see an excessive price. Of course, we would have liked a wireless model to exist.
