Those wonderful old laptops

What is stated in our introduction is especially striking in those laptops that are already over half a decade old. We have recently seen a clear evolution in the portable market, especially in its internal components and in what is considered "standard" today in these devices.

An example of this is found in the use of SSD storage in current mid-range models compared to those of 4-5 years or more ago, when this component was still a luxury item for the most modest configurations. Situations like this have disadvantaged the longest-running models, greatly disadvantaging them compared to newer models.

However, the hardware windows on which we can work (and update) on these computers allow us, in many cases, to give them a new life. Today we want to demonstrate it by rescuing the example of SSD storage that we described a few lines ago updating an old laptop.

A test subject older in years

The laptop in question is an old HP 15-n252ss from 2013, so it's not a high-end laptop even in the year of its release. This equipment uses by default a 240GB HDD at 5, 400 rpm which, together with its RAM, can be easily extracted and updated.

It is a 2013-2014 laptop, so it shares many similarities with equipment that we currently see on the market, such as the SATA III standard that we know it uses, so we should have no problem updating our drives. hard for an SSD.

To carry out the update we have used a Crucial BX series SSD, this unit belongs to the low cost range of the company based on the giant Micron, so it seemed to us an excellent idea for our old laptop.

It's time to unscrew our laptop

Although the update does not involve any complications, most laptops do not usually make things easy for you to access its interior, but rather to call an occasional opening to change the memory of the system.

In this case, touch unscrew to access the inside of the equipment. The generate procedure consists of keeping the equipment turned off, removing the battery (if applicable), unscrewing the intermediate fastening on the bottom, removing the keyboard and forcing some clips. Once inside we remove the old hard drive from the SATA bay of our laptop and replace it with our SSD.

If we intend to keep our files intact after updating the disk, we urge you to create a copy of those files of your interest or to use a tool in charge of creating and installing backup copies in our internal storage. As this text does not attempt to cover this topic and in this case I do not have any files that I want to keep on the computer, we will ignore this.
