Alienware unveils its 55-inch OLED monitor at CES 2019

Just as NVIDIA is promoting the new BFGD monitors, Alienware is launching its own 55-inch 'gaming' monitor, which is sure to be more than enough for most gamers.

During a short demo at CES, the Alienware OLED looked as good as any full-size OLED TV. Although, as detailed by the people of Engadget , no game could be seen running in the demonstration of this monitor at the time of the demonstration, but it looked very good while running demonstrations at 60 FPS and 4K + HDR YouTube resolution. Although it supports HDR, Dell is still working on Dolby Vision support.

So what makes this Alienware display different from a typical OLED TV? For one, it supports a variable refresh rate up to its maximum frequency of 120 Hz, while many TVs are locked at 120 Hz if they support it. In addition, it has a DisplayPort 1.4 connection, which supports 4K up to and a high refresh rate.

A competitor to NVIDIA's BFGD monitors emerges

The big difference between a screen like this from Alienware and the BFGD from NVIDIA, is that the latter uses LCD technology and not OLED, although it has the advantage that it can work at higher refresh rates.

Unfortunately Alienware has not detailed the delay time, which is essential in gaming monitors.

Alienware doesn't have a price in mind for this 55-inch OLED monitor yet, but the company plans to launch it in the second half of the year. Dell will also bring OLED panels to its 15-inch XPS, Alienware and G notebooks in March. If anything, it's nice to see the company exploring the world beyond conventional LCDs.
