When I am asked to build a good, beautiful and cheap equipment I think of AMD's FM2 + platform . Its A10 / A8 and A6 processor range make sense for casual gamers with HD resolution and energetically perfect gear.

At Professional Review we have reviewed the A10-7800 and tested the 7850K with excellent results. It is time to go through our test bench the new A8-7650K that runs at a standard speed of 3300 Mhz quad core, 2x2MB in Cache L2 and a TDP of 95W maximum.

We appreciate the trust placed by the AMD team for the transfer of the product:

First impressions

The AMD Kaveri A8-7650K is a processor of the Core Bulldozer family (Steamroller) with a standard speed at 3300 Mhz speed that when activated the Turbo Boost automatically goes up to an interesting 3700 mhz. Its manufacturing process is 28 nm with DDR3 Dual Channel memory support of up to 2400 Mhz as standard and we can reach higher figures without much complexity. Digging a little deeper inside we have a cache memory consisting of 4x16KB, x 2 96KB in cache L1 and 2 x 2 MB in Cache L2.

In graphic options it includes 8 Compute Units (CUs) with 512 Stream Processor at a base frequency of 654 mhz, 720 mhz with boost and 384 shader cores. Compatible with Mantle API and DirectX 11. Not forgetting the 4.0 Unified Video Encoding, TrueAudio Accelerator and Video Coding Engine technologies.

Concluding the views of the processor we find a TDP of 95W, and the compatible instructions MMX, extensions MMX, extensions SSE / Streaming SIMD + SSE2 / Streaming SIMD 2 + SSE3 / Streaming SIMD 3 + SSSE3 / Supplemental Streaming SIMD 3 + SSE4 / SSE4.1 + SSE4.2 / Streaming SIMD 4, SSE4a, AES, AVX, BMI1, F16C, FMA3, FMA4, TBM, XOP, AMD64, VT, EVP, PoweNow Power Control Technology! and Turbo Core 3.0.

On the motherboard that we are going to test this processor is the Asus A68HM-PLUS mid-range platform. First hand we know that the catalog of plates is very wide and can satisfy all our needs and purchasing level. In this case the Asus has a microATX format that incorporates the new A68 chipset compatible with all the series processors from its first BIOS, 32GB of DDR3 RAM up to 2400mhz, PCI Express 3.0 connection, 4 SATA 6GB / s ports compatible with Raid 0.1, 10 and JBOD, a Realtek 8111GR network card, Realtek ALC887-VD audio with 8 digital channels and UEFI BIOS.

To check the stability of the processor we have used a very efficient motherboard such as the A68HM-PLUS from the manufacturer ASUS. All tests have been carried out with series values (stock) with a FULL HD 1920 × 1080 resolution.

Final words and conclusion

The AMD 8-7650k is an APU ( Accelerated Processing Unit ) processor designed to act as a processor and graphics card on the same chip circuit. This new APU is capable of reaching up to 3700 mhz with turbo core activated, it has 2 × 2 Mb of L2 cache, compatibility with DDR3 memory at 2400 mhz and an integrated AMD Radeon R7 graphics card with 512 Stream Processor compatible with engines. Mantle graphics and the well-known DirectX 11.

WE RECOMMEND AMD Zen mass availability in early 2017

During our tests we have seen that it is an ideal equipment for multimedia use, desktop or sporadic players since without the need to mount a large tower we have an "all-terrain" equipment. Allowing us to get the most out of the SATA III, PCI Express 3.0 connection and new UEFI BIOS that further enhances the end consumer experience. At the synthetic tests level we have had excellent results with a 3.21 point cinebench. While in games its behavior at HD (720) is excellent and at FULL HD (1920 * 1080) it is remarkable. For example, with Tomb Raider we have obtained an average of 65 FPS in HD and 31 in FULL HD with graphic options in averages.

I would also like to clarify that the Asus A68HM-PLUS motherboard has offered great performance and for its low price it offers us very interesting features such as: compatibility with DDR3 memory at 2400 (oc), last generation expansion sockets, possibility of overclocking and UEFI BIOS.

If you are thinking of acquiring a “low cost” processor with 4 cores, an ideal internal graphics card to play games sporadically, a large overclocking capacity, the new A8-7650K series should be among your candidates. It is currently in online stores for the modest price of € 105.
