Amd Warns Steam Hardware Count Is Inaccurate

AMD says the Steam Hardware Survey data is miscounting processor statistics, which contains a bug that is favoring Intel.

The ExtremeTech source commented that AMD's Scott Herkelman was quite mad at the AMD processor statistics from the Steam Hardware Survey. An error was apparently introduced into the SHS (Steam Hardware Survey) processor brand count in an August 2017 update. The error, which still exists, overcounts Intel processors by counting “each individual login to an internet café as another instance. of the system configuration of that computer ”.

The Chinese cyber café market is so big that they get custom designed graphics cards to meet their specific needs. These internet cafes heavily use Intel processors, and with the login = new computer misinformed, this greatly distorts the figures we see on the Steam Hardware Survey. The latest figures indicate that there are 146, 000 internet cafes in China with 20 million daily users.

AMD's Herkelman said, `` Valve knows about this CPU count issue, but doesn't seem too concerned about fixing it. The reason is that the purpose of their data is not market share, but general trends for game developers, ” he complained.
