AMD has announced a new MxGPU technology, something it has called "the world's first hardware-based virtual GPU solution . "
MxGPU is AMD's new technology for GPU virtualization
Now available for Citrix XenServer 7.4, MxGPU technology is a multi-user GPU designed for virtual client environments. It is compatible with Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp. It is also a flexible solution for various business applications, the AMD company said.
AMD claims it is "a flexible and reliable infrastructure, " continuing: "AMD MxGPU graphics virtualization technology provides leading quality of service (QoS) with performance up to nine times more consistent than the competition."
AMD said the technology could be useful to businesses because it will provide a "reliable graphics experience" for digital workspaces.
“IT managers will receive fewer calls probing unexpected slowdowns; end users will know how their workflow will behave and the Office of Program Management can practice better business planning through the allocation of reliable or predictable resources , ” explained AMD.
AMD's MxGPU technology enables up to 16 users virtualized by physical GPU to work remotely, which is a major advance for virtualization.
As more independent software vendors embrace GPU acceleration to provide a better end-user experience, AMD hopes that GPU-coupled QoS will remain the best choice for enterprise data centers.
