AMD has 'accidentally' revealed some performance data for its upcoming Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX processor, the top-of-the-range series that owns 32 cores and 64 threads, showing its superiority over Intel's most powerful chip.

Threadripper 2990WX is 53% faster than Intel Core i9-7980XE in Cinebench R15 benchmarks

Today, the flagship processor for Intel X299 is its i9-7980XE. This CPU has about 18 cores and is sold today at a price similar to that of AMD's Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX ($ 1, 799), giving AMD a considerable advantage in terms of number of cores and number of threads.

AMD France has revealed performance information for the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX processor, showing a Cinebench R15 score of 5, 099 points. This number offers a 53% performance advantage over the Intel Core i9-7980XE, which earned 3, 335 points in stock.

Both tests were conducted using similar hardware configurations, using Samsung 850 Pro SSDs, 4x8GB 3200MHz DDR4 memory, a GTX 1080 graphics card, and the same 64-bit version of Windows 10.

Assuming that this Cinebench score and the price we know are correct, AMD will be dealing a pretty tough blow to Intel's line of hardware, offering much more value for money than its competition, more cores and much more performance, especially when it deals with multi-threaded operations.

This should also make Intel react, which will have to make sharp price cuts to its current i9-7980XE and all its younger siblings. It does not take long to verify how true these numbers are in tests carried out by specialized magazines and private users.
