It is still at least half a year before the arrival of the third-generation AMD Ryzen processors, but the first rumors and the first leaks of information are already beginning. A motherboard maker has hinted at the arrival of new AM4 processors with up to 16 cores.

The AM4 platform will have processors of more than eight cores

One of the major motherboard manufacturers has released a promotional video in which it talks about the arrival of processors with more than eight cores on the AM4 platform. This would be possible with the move to the 7nm manufacturing process, which would allow AMD to double the number of cores in each CCX complex of the Zen architecture to eight. AMD manufactures its silicons with two CCX, so that the new processors for AM4 would have a maximum of 16 cores. To this would be added the improvements at the level of Zen 2 architecture.

AMD has barely shared information about its Zen 2 core yet, the latest rumor seems to indicate that Zen 2 will have a 10% to 15% improvement in IPC over first-generation Zen architecture. This 10-15% improvement in the CPI may yield good results as we also expect to see some advances in clock speed on next generation processors. All of this together will provide much better performance than current CPUs.

Lastly, there is talk that the TR4 platform will stick with the current count of 32 Ryzen Threadripper second generation 32 cores, and the server EPYC platform will get up to 64 cores per socket. What do you think of all these news about the third generation of AMD Zen-based processors? If all this is accomplished, we will see a very important advance
