Amd launches the ssd radeon r7
It has been known for a few weeks that AMD was planning its foray into the SSD market and today the official announcement of the launch of its Radeon R7 SSDs finally arrives.
The Radeon R7 SSD series is made up of three models (120, 240 and 480 GB) manufactured by OCZ, making use of its famous Barefoot 3 controller. Since OCZ now belongs to Toshiba, it is logical that in these SSDs they use the new MLC flash memory chips of the Japanese brand manufactured with a 19 nanometer process. For now all models have a 2.5-inch form factor and SATA 3 interface and there is no plan to launch new models in other formats such as the M.2.
Here is a table with the main characteristics of the different models of Radeon R7 SSDs:
As can be seen in the table, the 120GB model is the one with the lowest specifications and the 480GB model is the one with the best specifications, while the 240GB model is somewhere in between.
According to AMD, its SSDs offer a life of 4 years writing 30GB of data every day (if less information is written, its life will be longer) and offer a guarantee of exactly 4 years.
Prices for AMD units start at $ 75 for the 120GB model, $ 120 for the 240GB model and $ 240 for the 480GB unit, the conversion they will make in Europe remains to be known.
