AMD has officially released its new B450 chipset geared towards the mid-range and users looking to build a great team on a tight budget. It is a cheaper alternative to the X470 chipset, while maintaining almost all of its same characteristics and offering end users a pleasant price. This new chipset reaffirms AMD's commitment to its AM4 platform until 2020.

The AM4 socket will be supported until 2020, all the details

The launch of the B450 has further consolidated AMD's plans to support its AM4 socket through 2020, allowing all of today's AM4 motherboards to be compatible with upcoming Ryzen processors. This promise means that the B450 models will support future Ryzen 3000 series processors manufactured at 7nm and with the new Zen 2 architecture, the only requirement will be to update the BIOS. A very different situation than Intel chipsets and sockets, which are not normally compatible with more than two generations of processors.

B450 also adds support for StoreMI technology and updates the platform with better memory cabling and VRM specifications to offer improved memory stability and compatibility, features we've seen on X470 boards previously. B450 also supports overclocking, a feature not available on Intel B360 motherboards, giving AMD a huge advantage on tight budgets.

It would be in 2021 when the arrival of a new socket occurs, AM5 and perhaps with support for the new DDR5 memories that should already be on the market by then. What do you think of the great longevity of the AM4 platform?
