The Navi GPU is slated to be the first AMD graphics card not to be built with the GCN macroarchitecture. While we have no idea what specs AMD will go with, we do know that it will be the first GPU architecture capable of exceeding the 4096 Stream Processors limit imposed by the GCN architecture.
What is rumored is that the first models based on the Navi GPU are for the middle segment. Sources claim that the first models will have only 40 CUs, which translates to about 2, 560 SP, if the CU to SP ratio is the same as in the GCN architecture (for which there is no confirmation yet). If that's the case, the early models would compete fiercely in the GTX1660 Ti segment at RTX 2070, which is where the most volume is sold.
Those future buyers of a GTX 1660 Ti or RX 480/580 may want to wait a bit to see what AMD has to say in the coming weeks.
