Amd polaris will use hbm2 and gddr5 memories

Anonim

AMD Polaris will be the architecture that will give life to the brand's next GPUs, it will arrive under a 14nm manufacturing process and together with the new HBM2 memory. AMD has confirmed that we will also see Polaris GPUs with GDDR5 memory.

The use of HBM2 memory has enormous advantages, among which we highlight a much higher bandwidth, lower power consumption and avoids the need for a large PCB. However, it is very expensive memory, at the moment, and not all GPUs can take advantage of it, which is why AMD has decided that it will also manufacture Polaris-based graphics cards with GDDR5 memory.

Therefore, the highest-end GPUs will be those that include the HBM2 memory for maximum performance and the rest of the units will include GDDR5 for a lower cost and their performance will not be affected.
