Amd prepares a new driver for the linux kernel

Anonim

AMD is working on preparing a new driver for the Linux kernel in order to use it as the basis for its Catalyst drivers and the open source Gallium3D driver.

AMD is working on a modification of its DRM (Direct Rendering Manager) driver currently used in its proprietary Catalyst drivers. The goal is to create a new Linux kernel driver that is used by both its proprietary and free-source Gallium 3D drivers.

However, this new driver will only be used in future graphics cards created by AMD, that is, from Pirate Islands onwards so that all GPUs currently on the market will be left out.
