AMD's brand new graphics card, Radeon VII, has been tested under some games running at 8K resolution.

Radeon running at 8K with Assasins Creed Odyssey, Resident Evil 2, Crysis 3, Far Cry 5, etc.

Radeon VII launched last February 7 with some mixed feelings due to its price and performance. Provided with an exaggerated amount of memory for the current times, especially for a graphics card designed for games, it is interesting to see how this new GPU performs in such extreme resolutions.

The games tested by the YouTube channel TheSpyHood were Assasins Creed Odyssey, Resident Evil 2, Crysis 3, among others.

Although the Radeon VII has 16GB of memory, which would supposedly help you to be able to run games at this resolution, the results are not so auspicious.

AMD's new GPU suffers to hit 30 fps with options 'high'

Going into more detail, the AMD Radeon VII was able to run Assassin's Creed Odyssey in 8K with the graphics options 'high' with framerates between 20-27fps. In Crysis 3, AMD's graphics card was able to offer a smoother gaming experience, as it was able to run it with framerates between 29-35 fps. In Resident Evil 2 Remake, AMD's latest gaming graphics card was able to deliver a 30fps experience, however some more demanding scenes were dropping to 20fps. All games have been tested in combination with the Ryzen 5 2600 at 3.4 GHz.

Just like 4K games from a few years ago, 8K games are really possible today by tapping the graphics options and locking the framerate at 30 fps. It could be said that leaving the games with graphics in 'medium' would be possible to achieve 30 fps totally stable. However, very few will be able to take advantage of this resolution because there are not many 8K display options, and those that exist are extremely expensive.
