Amd recommends memory @ 3,733mhz with ryzen 3000

While AMD has shown that Ryzen 3000 memory overclocking can top 5, 000MHz on the MSI X570 Godlike, and hit 4, 200MHz simply using XMP settings, the real 'sweet spot' for performance memory is going to be 3, 733MHz. That's what Travis Kirsch of AMD says.

Memory performance on AMD's Ryzen platform has been a hot topic since the first generation of chips was released in 2017. AMD itself admits that memory compatibility was something it struggled with on first-generation Ryzen, but not going to be the case with Ryzen 3000. "It's a different product, compatibility is much better, " said Travis Kirsch of AMD.
"When you look at memory overclocking, " says Kirsch, "MSI Godlike has already shown that it can deliver more than 5, 000MHz. So if you compare it to the first and second generation Ryzen, it makes a big difference. It's going to be a lot of fun adjusting the platform and overclocking the memory. ”
Part of the problem with memory performance in previous generations of Ryzen is because the platform's Infinity Fabric interconnect is directly tied to memory speed at a 1: 1 level.
"We have shown internally that with a single click, using the XMP configuration, 4, 200 MHz is obtained quite easily, " explains Kirsch. "But we had to do something to do that. In the first two generations of Ryzen, Infinity Fabric was tied to the speed of memory across the spectrum. “The maximum speed that we have achieved in a stable way is around 1, 800MHz, a little more than 1, 800MHz. It is tied two to one to the memory clock, that's why 3, 733MHz is the maximum frequency you can get on that link. Once it goes further, our software will undock them so that the GMI link is not blocked. ”
Kirsch comments on the latencies of the memories, and that there is no point in obtaining a memory of more than 5, 000 MHz with high latencies.
"So the lowest memory latencies you're going to get reasonably, is combined with a speed of 3, 733MHz. When you try it, we recommend that you use those 3, 600MHz, with CL 16 or less - if you can get it below that stability it is great - because that will give you the optimal memory latency. It will also give you a very good performance and price module. But with that said, if you're an enthusiast and want your high clock speeds, you can do it. ”
