AMD posted its highest quarterly revenue since 2005, driven by its highest quarterly revenue from (desktop) processors since 2011. Overall, AMD had revenue of $ 1.8 billion in the third quarter of 2019, representing a 9% year-on-year and 18% quarterly profit. This, thanks to the incredible sales of its third generation Ryzen processors.

AMD had revenue of $ 1.8 billion in the third quarter of 2019

AMD's success in the desktop segment was due to growing sales of its 7nm Ryzen 3000 processors, which experienced such demand that the company struggled to keep shelves stocked with the most popular models, such as the Ryzen 5. 3600X.

Strong sales led AMD's customer division to a healthy 36% year-over-year revenue increase, but persistent shortages may have limited potential growth. AMD's Ryzen processors are now priced as you would expect from premium processors, leading to an increase in Average Sales Prices (ASP). AMD also says it gained more market share in desktops during the quarter, marking the eighth consecutive quarterly increase.

AMD's long-awaited 7nm EPYC Rome processors also began trading in volume, leading to a 50% quarterly increase in EPYC sales.

AMD's GPU business is also doing well with the arrival of 7nm Radeon graphics cards, which helped fuel a year-over-year rise in average selling prices (ASPs), despite a quarterly decline in ASPs.

AMD's gross margins also improved to 43%, a 3% year-over-year profit that was the best since 2012. Profits totaled $ 121 million, an increase of 242%.

AMD also plans more explosive earnings in the coming quarter, projecting $ 2.1 billion in revenue, representing a 48% quarterly and 17% year-over-year profit. If AMD can meet these projections, it would equal the highest quarterly revenue in the company's history. AMD also noted that this year it has reduced debt by $ 441 million.

This is all good news for AMD this year, which may be the best ever in revenue. We will keep you informed.
