Amd responds to Ryzen's modest gaming performance

The arrival of AMD Ryzen has left a bittersweet taste, the new processors of the company have proven to be real monsters in tasks such as video editing and rendering that make very intensive use of the processor. However, tests with video games have shown a quite modest performance and inferior to that obtained in other scenarios.

The power and energy efficiency of the AMD Zen microarchitecture is beyond doubt, the Ryzen 7 1800X is a processor with a performance on par with the Intel Core i7-6900K and even higher on some occasions. Both processors have the same number of cores and threads so Zen cores don't exactly lack power.
Video games remain AMD's weak point with Ryzen, Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, has spoken on the matter and has assured that the performance of gaming processors will improve when studios start working on optimization for the new Zen microarchitecture. Currently the games are optimized only for Intel so AMD processors cannot show their full potential.
AMD has already sent 300 development kits to the different video game studios to facilitate the work of optimizing them for Zen, throughout the year they plan to send some 1000 additional kits with which they want to ensure that the main games that reach the market can squeeze the most out of Ryzen processors. Currently Ryzen's greatest deficiency in games is observed at 1080p resolution, as the resolution increases the CPU is becoming less and less important and it is the GPU that commands so the distance between Ryzen and the Intel chips is reduced a lot.
Despite this, Ryzen processors are able to offer excellent performance in current games and without framerate drops, they are also perfectly valid for virtual reality. If Ryzen processors are able to defend themselves very well without optimizing games, it is to be expected that performance will only improve as games are optimized for the new Zen microarchitecture.
