It seems that AMD has decided to counter the recent drop in price of the RTX 2060 by offering faster clock speeds on its Radeon RX 5600 XT graphics card. Yesterday, NVIDIA's RTX 2060 dropped in price to $ 299, making it a surprisingly better deal than the 5600 XT, but AMD has a few tricks up its sleeve.

AMD RX 5600 XT will increase its clocks through BIOS

Just four days before the official launch of the Radeon RX 5600 XT, AMD allegedly provided a new BIOS to its partners, increasing the TDP to 160W (from 150W). This has a direct effect on the RX 5600 XT's clock speeds, which are higher than previously announced at CES 2020.

One OF the first manufacturers to implement the new BIOS is Sapphire with the RX 5600 XT Pulse.

The RX 5600 XT has three clock speeds: 1130 MHz base clock (not normally announced by board partners), a 1375 MHz gaming clock, and a 1560 MHz boost clock. Since the first graphics card was released Navi, AIBs tend to focus on the gaming watch with its official specifications. There is hardly any manufacturer that indicates base clocks and very rarely the boost clocks are changed.

Increases in GPU and memory clock speeds

The Sapphire RX 5600 XT Pulse was officially released with a 1560 MHz gaming clock and a 1620 MHz boost clock (you can still find the official press release here). The clocks, however, have been changed today on the website to 1615 MHz and 1750 MHz respectively. What's also interesting is that the memory clock increases to 14 Gbps.

The 8% increase in power and 3% in clock speed should result in a 5-10% increase in gaming performance over what was initially shown, bringing it much closer to the RTX 2060. However, the NVIDIA option still looks good.
