Amd rx 5700: flashing the bios can increase power by 20%
Table of contents:
The last two releases of AMD graphics cards have not been without news and lately they have discovered one more feature. Testing the AMD RX 5700 XT v BIOS on its little sister was tried and the results were quite positive.
AMD RX 5700 performs better with flashed BIOS
The history of AMD graphics is not short on community discoveries.
Some models have been able to unlock more compute cores, power limits and even up to 4 GB of VRAM (on the RX 480) . Today we will see a new episode, since flashing the v BIOS of the AMD RX 5700 can get us an extra performance.
Wccftech user Keith May suggested testing, and to his surprise the results were clear and good. Thanks to the new rules, the AMD RX 57000 had the highest power limits as well as the standard clock frequencies. This means that the overall performance went up and therefore the results in synthetic tests rose considerably.
Thanks to this, we can see a performance similar or even higher than that of its older sister, although only in some specific cases.
This little tweak may change the mid / upper-mid range graphics market, although we do n't know yet what the consequences may be. If the charts reach thresholds for which they are not designed, we may be shortening the life expectancy of the component.
What we do know first hand is that they dramatically increase their temperature and consumption. Of course, no value is above dangerous limits.
If you want to know more about it, we recommend you visit Keith May's post. There he talks more in depth about the process of flashing the vBIOS and about the results obtained.
And to you, what do you think of this "mechanics" of AMD graphics? Do you think the brand does it on purpose to enhance future products? Share your ideas in the comment box.
