- Final words and conclusion about AMD Ryzen 7 3700X vs Intel Core i9-9900k
This is a much-needed comparison of two processors with similar characteristics, but with a large price difference. The Ryzen 7 3700X occupies 8 cores and 16 threads just like the i9-9900K. Although this AMD processor was probably not intended to specifically compete against the i9 (If the Ryzen 7 3800X), still, the improvement in the IPC of the Zen 2 architecture is enough to see it battle in front of the team's flagship blue. Let's see who is the winner.

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
This processor is the intermediate proposal of the new Ryzen 3000 series, above the Ryzen 5 3600 and a few steps below the Ryzen 7 3800X and Ryzen 9 3900X. The interesting thing about this processor is that the TDP is the same as that of the Ryzen 5 3600 (65W) but with two additional cores.
The chip reaches 4.4GHz with its boost clock (fully loaded). Its price, today, is about 360 euros approximately.

Intel Core i9-9900K
The flagship that Intel currently has for the consumer market. The processor, which costs more than 500 euros, has been on the performance podium since it was launched in the last quarter of the year last year. However, AMD with its Ryzen 3000 series is jeopardizing his reign.
The chip has 8 cores and 16 threads and reaches a maximum of 5.0GHz with a single core and 4.7GHz on all cores.

Game performance tests
To perform these tests in games, an AORUS Master X570 board was used as a base to test the Ryzen and an RTX 2060 graphics card. The memory used is the 16GB @ 3600MHz G.Skill Trident Z RGB Royal.
All 6 games were tested in 1080p, 1440p resolution and 4K with the highest quality.
In 1080p resolution
Games (average FPS) | Ryzen 7 3700X | i9-9900K |
Shadow of the Tomb Raider | 104 | 98 |
Far Cry 5 | 115 | 113 |
DOOM | 150 | 130 |
Final Fantasy XV | 103 | 101 |
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided | 93 | 100 |
Metro Exodus (Without RTX) | 105 | 130 |

Games (average FPS) | Ryzen 7 3700X | i9-9900K |
Shadow of the Tomb Raider | 71 | 67 |
Far Cry 5 | 82 | 69 |
DOOM | 119 | 118 |
Final Fantasy XV | 68 | 70 |
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided | 63 | 68 |
Metro Exodus (Without RTX) | 41 | 58 |
In 4K resolution
Games (average FPS) | Ryzen 7 3700X | i9-9900K |
Shadow of the Tomb Raider | 38 | 38 |
Far Cry 5 | 42 | 42 |
DOOM | 73 | 60 |
Final Fantasy XV | 36 | 36 |
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided | 33 | 40 |
Metro Exodus (Without RTX) | 25 | 3. 4 |
We see that the Ryzen 7 3700X outperforms the i9-9900K in 4 of the 6 in-game tests, with a noticeable difference in DOOM. However, the Intel option wins in two games by a not insignificant margin, in Deus Ex and Metro Exodus, especially in the latter. It can be concluded that things are rigged in games and will depend on each title and how it is optimized to see a difference between both processors.
Considering the value of both processors, the balance is tilted to one side quite clearly.
Productivity Performance Testing / Benchmarks
We know that many users use these processors not only for gaming, but also for other, even more demanding, tasks.
Ryzen 7 3700X | i9-9900K | |
AIDA 64 - Reading Speed | 51, 062 MB / s | 50, 822 MB / s |
AIDA 64 - Write Speed | 28, 734 MB / s (may be a bad read from the software) | 51, 751 MB / s |
Cinebench R15 (Single-core) | 205 cb | 214 |
Cinebench R15 (Multi-core) | 2149 cb | 2057 cb |
3DMark Fire Strike | 24, 753 | 24, 902 |
Blender (Less is better) | 152.52 sec | 156.93 |
Wprime 32M (Multi-core) (Less is better) | 2, 731 | 5, 079 |
Wprime 32 (Single-core) (Less is better) | 24, 881 | 28, 214 |
PCMARK 8 | 4637 | 4664 |
In the different synthetic tests, we again see a parity, in Cinebench or 3DMark. On the other hand, we see advantages for the Ryzen 7 3700X in Wprime and Blender very clear. The i9-9900K clearly wins at AIDA 64 and memory write speed.
Consumption and temperatures
Ryzen 5 3700X | i9-9900K | |
Consumption (Rest) (W) | 70W | 49W |
Consumption (Load) (W) | 295W | 261W |
Temperature (Stock) (°) | 37 ° | 29 ° |
Temperature (Load) (°) | 45 ° | 80 ° |
The temperatures at which the Ryzen 5 3700X works are great, with only about 45 degrees of temperature. Here we note the inclusion of the 7nm node. We hardly need to buy any additional heatsinks. The i9-9900K, meanwhile, works at temperatures of 80 degrees with a Corsair H100i V2 liquid cooling (no heatsink comes in the box). In this case, it is recommended to buy a third-party heatsink to at least make it work. Ains Intel…
As for consumption, both are on par, with 295W and 261W, with an advantage for the AMD option, again.
Final words and conclusion about AMD Ryzen 7 3700X vs Intel Core i9-9900k
With this parity and slight performance advantage, in addition to operating temperatures under 50 degrees with the stock heatsink (Wraith Prism with RGB LED) and a price difference of around 150 euros in favor of the Ryzen 7 3700X, we believe that there is no doubt what is the most recommended option at this time to build an 8-core, 16-wire Gaming PC.

If this processor is combined with an X570 motherboard, we will also get the advantage of PCIe 4.0, which is important for new PCIe SSDs, which benefit from higher read and write speeds.
We will see what will be the next movements of Intel, in terms of price drops and the new processors planned to update its current Coffee Lake refresh proposal.
