Amd ryzen 7 vs intel core i7 in games
Table of contents:
Tom's hardware has taken an AMD Ryzen 7 1800X processor and put it to the test in several games to see its behavior against Intel solutions. Much has been said that the performance of the new AMD processors is quite mediocre in games, let's see if it is true or not, but this time in realistic conditions as every player wants them.
AMD Ryzen 7 vs Intel Core i7: gaming performance under real conditions
We know that in order to find the limits of a processor in games, low-resolution tests and low graphic detail are used so that the GPU is not the bottleneck, something that in the real field of play does not occur because nobody uses a GeForce GTX 1080 to play 720p with low graphics, so let's see how the new AMD Ryzen behave in real game conditions. The graphics card used has been the GeForce GTX 1080.
Hitman shows us a Ryzen 7 1800X in last position but very close to the Core i7-6900K that is worth double the money, especially in the lows where we only see 1 FPS difference, something priceless. The Core i7-7700K sits at the top of the table once again showing that 8-core processors aren't the best to play with, at least in most games.
We arrived at Metro: Last Light Redux, a very demanding game with the processor that shows us a performance almost on par with the three processors, again the Ryzen 7 1800X at the bottom of the table but with the same minimums as the Core i7 -7700K and only 2.8 FPS less than average, a draw.
We finished with Ashes of the Singularity that gives the Ryzen 7 1800X the best suit, the Core i7-6900K is shown as the fastest processor with a minimum 13 FPS higher than AMD silicon and a higher media at almost 35 FPS. This result shows that current games are not able to take advantage of the characteristics of the new AMD Zen microarchitecture, two processors with very similar performance are very far apart in this case.
We continue with some productivity tests that bring the Ryzen 7 1800X back to the Core i7-6900K or even above, it is evident that something is wrong in current games.
Test | Ryzen 7 1800X | Intel Core i7-6900K |
Cinebench 15 Singlethreaded | 161 points | 155 points |
Cinebench 15 Multithreaded | 1, 628 points | 1, 477 points |

PCMark 8 Home (non-OpenCL) | 3, 806 points | 3, 920 points |
PCMark 8 Work (non-OpenCL) | 3, 620 points | 3, 171 points |
