Amd vega takes double the available video memory
Table of contents:
After the presentation of the AMD Vega graphics architecture at CES, we are gradually learning more about some of the most important details of the new generation of graphics cards. One of the most important and differentiating features will be a much more efficient use of available memory.
AMD Vega doubles the amount of usable memory available
AMD Vega unveils a new memory architecture along with a High Bandwidth Cache that come together to make these new GPUs much more efficient with memory usage. This increased efficiency will make a card with 8 GB of memory behave as if it actually had 16 GB of memory. This is possible because until now GPUs have been very inefficient with memory management, which causes a large amount to be wasted and that only about 50% of the memory consumed is used to process the pixels.
We recommend our guide to the best graphics cards.
As an example in an interview with Raja Koduri, it has been stated that if a game currently consumes 4 GB of memory, only 2 GB are used and that the new Vega graphics will be able to consume only 2 GB instead of 4 GB. It is already less so that the new cards are on the market and we can check if this is true or not.
