These days with CES 2017 we have many important news to tell you. But the AMD guys have decided to go ahead and take us out before the doubts we had about the new Vega architecture. With this architecture, AMD will create its new generation of graphics cards. What we know for now, is that they come to compete with the high-end, so surely they will not be wasted, since Vega allows new possibilities in the PC game, with an improved design and betting on AI.

AMD VEGA is official: all the details

Although there are still months ahead until the new AMD charts arrive, the rumors point to March-April. But what data do we have of AMD's Vega architecture ? One of the first details of the VEGA architecture is that GCN is replaced by NCU ( new generation computing unit ). Each of these units (CU) will continue to be made up of 64 shaders, distributing the load to more than 4 SE ( shader engine ). The objective of this is to make better use of the resources available to it.

We are facing the most advanced GPU memory architecture. The HBM2 memory that can operate up to 2 GHz, being able to transfer terabytes of data every second, doubling the bandwidth compared to HBM (of the previous generation). It is well optimized for transmitting very large data sets and working with different types of memory, with up to 512 Tb of virtual address space.

This translates into a noticeable improvement in power by the AMD guys. And considering that it is a scalable memory, it can be improved even more.

That is, the memory controller is 8GB HBM2 and it has a cache subsystem outside the Main DIE that manages with its 512 Tb the information between RAM, CPU and GPU.

On the other hand, the Next Generation Computer Engine is built on flexible computing units, optimized to achieve higher frequencies than previous generations.

Another improvement is the use of the L2 level cache instead of using the memory controller. What improvements does it offer us? It allows you to choose the lighting of the textures with greater fluidity, efficiency and regularity than the current shape.

It is the 5th generation of Graphics CoreNext architecture

VEGA is the 5th Gen, betting on a new design for its GPUs. But when will GPU products based on this new Vega architecture be available? We would have to wait for this first half of 2017, which is when they will be launched on the market.

We recommend our guide to the best graphics cards on the market.
