It seems NVIDIA bought an entire mountain of GDDR5X memory chips and doesn't know what to do with them now that it's using GDDR6 memory with Turing. To try and output all those accumulated chips, Nvidia is updating its GTX 1060 and GTZ 1070 models with this GDDR5X memory in an attempt to convince users and output them. We are talking about the Zotac GTX 1070 AMP Extreme Core GDDR5X.

Zotac GTX 1070 AMP Extreme Core GDDR5X with GP104 core and GDDR5X memories

First it was the GP104 silicon-based 6GB GTX 1060 with GDDR5X memory, and now it's the significantly faster GeForce GTX 1070, which is getting the newer memory, along with the rest of the spec unchanged. Zotac is among the first partners with one of those cards, the Zotac GTX 1070 AMP Extreme Core GDDR5X (model: ZT-P10700Q-10P). In the past we have already seen some GTX 1070 models with GDDR5X, but they were focused on cryptocurrency mining.

We recommend reading our article on The power connections of a graphics card

Like the 6GB GTX 1060 GDDR5X, this Zotac card sticks at a memory clock speed of 8 Gbps, despite using GDDR5X memory chips rated 10 Gbps, and features a memory interface of 256 bits. The GPU is factory overclocked to reach 1 607 MHz base, with 1797 MHz in Boost mode. These figures place it below the clock speeds of the GDDR5 AMP Extreme SKU, which not only has a higher frequency of 1805 MHz, but also memory overclocked at 8.20 GHz.

However, the new Zotac GTX 1070 AMP Extreme Core GDDR5X should have a fairly high overclocking potential in the memories, since it carries certified chips for 10 Gbps. What do you think about the launch of this new Zotac GTX 1070 AMP Extreme Core GDDR5X?
