After having seen it at Computex 2018, the Wraith Ripper heatsink has been officially announced, settling doubts about whether it would be the reference heatsink included with the new Threadripper or if it would be sold separately. Well, it is sold separately, and at a price that is not particularly cheap, although it is true that it is intended for a CPU of € 2000.

Cooler Master Wraith Ripper: massive heatsink to support the 250W of the Threadripper 2990WX

The new heatsink features a two-tower aluminum design and no fewer than seven heatpipes to transfer heat as optimally as possible. In between the two towers is a 120mm MasterAir Pro Servo fan, which promises to be really quiet. The contact surface covers the entire Threadripper die, taking advantage of its large size.

In addition to the full support for CPUs up to 250W like the Threadripper 2990WX, this heatsink also has a great aesthetic appeal with an attractive design where the RGB LEDs controlled by Software and the Threadripper logo are sure to attract some 'especially fan' user of AMD. In addition, the eye-catching heatsink housing properly guides the air flow.

This Wraith Ripper will have a recommended price of 119 euros, which leaves it 'in no man's land' just between two other very competent options: the Noctua NH-U14S TR4 for 100 euros (€ 80 + € 20 of the additional fan recommended by the brand), less aesthetically attractive air cooler, and the Enermax Liqtech TR4 240 which is worth 10 euros more and can with a TDP of more than 500W.

We have already found the AMD Threadripper 2990WX at 1900 euros in Spain, in stores like Alternate. So if we add a heatsink like the Wraith Ripper we would have 32 cores and 64 wires properly cooled for just € 2000. This is a sign of the really low price at which a CPU as powerful as this would remain.
