Biostar, a manufacturer of components for PC that is characterized by offering a wide catalog of very interesting products in the relation between quality and price, today presented the new line of solid state drives Biostar M500 in the M.2-2280 format and with PCI-Express 3.0 x2 interface.

Biostar M500, NVMe-based SSDs for the input range with heatsink included

These Biostar M500 were shown for the first time at Computex 2018 leaving very good impressions. The drives take advantage of the NVMe 1.2 protocol, which provides them with much higher read and write speeds than what is achieved with the more traditional SATA III 6 Gb / s interface.

Biostar M500 comes available in capacities of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB to fit the needs and possibilities of all users. The units have 256 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB and 1 GB DDR3L DRAM caches, respectively. As for the sequential performance numbers issued by the company, they are up to 1, 700 MB / s read, and up to 1, 100 MB / s write.

Biostar M500 units include a couple of useful innovations, starting with the built-in metal heat sink, which wraps around three sides of the unit. Near the end of the unit there are two LEDs, one is link / activity green and the other is an RGB LED that indicates the real-time temperature measured on the controller, with red being the warmest, green the coldest and amber the one that indicates the typical temperature.

The company did not disclose pricing, but they should be fairly inexpensive looking at their specs, clearly below the top-of-the-line NVMe, but quite pro over SATA III-based drives.
