Turning off the computer is not always an easy task as it seems. In Windows 10 there are many ways to suspend your computer and that its impact on battery consumption and speed is not diminished and improve the speed of your activities. To help understand the technical difference, in this article we explain each way to turn off the equipment.

Shutdown, restart or suspend the computer?

Shutdown, restart, suspend, hibernate and hybrid sleep have very different functions; Choosing wrong can greatly hinder your team's performance. Let's start little by little:

Shutdown: When the user decides to shutdown their machine, Windows closes all active programs and ends shortly thereafter, cutting off PC component operation and power consumption. On desktop computers, you must use this feature.

Windows shutdown is recommended when the user has finished or saved their jobs and does not want to resume from the same point to turn it on. Additionally, the PC must be turned off to install components such as RAM and drives or peripherals that do not use USB and wireless connections.

Traditionally, the user can find a button to turn off Windows at the bottom of the Start menu. The exception is Windows 8 and 8.1, which has the shortcut in the bar, the sidebar on the right, or the top of the start screen.

Restart: By requesting a restart, the user causes Windows to completely shutdown and restart without the need to press the power button. The function is a great way out in the event of an accident or a PC malfunction, as the system will erase all programs from memory. Some installations or software updates require the user to restart the computer.

During the process, the equipment continues to consume energy constantly, since the machine does not turn off while the system recharges. In Windows 7, the restart option is located on an arrow next to the Start menu button. Already in the latest version, you can access the feature by clicking the power button on the Microsoft operating system.

Suspend: Suspension is the best option for those who are going to spend little time away from the computer and want to continue working at the same point where they stopped. In it, Windows saves open programs and enters a low-energy state, restarting much faster than usual.

Unlike conventional shutdown, the suspend function continues to drain the laptop battery. In other words, they use it with the device connected or when you are sure that you can easily recharge it. The sleep button is located on the Windows power button, but some laptop models are automatically activated with the function of closing the laptop cover.

Hibernate and Hybrid Sleep

Hibernating can be seen as a cheaper suspension. The option also freezes programs exactly at the point where they stopped and saves this information to disk. However, Hibernate mode consumes less power and is ideal for long trips or a wide range of no use, but it takes much more than restarting your computer.

Not all machines have the support of hibernating, being necessary to consult the information with the manufacturer of the equipment or the Windows command prompt. Also, the function cannot be present in the start menu system, it is necessary to follow this tutorial to include it.

WE RECOMMEND YOU, what difference is there between hibernating and suspending?

We have already entered the hybrid suspension, which is a design especially for desktop computers, the characteristics of the traditional suspension are mixed with the hybrid suspension. By suspending a PC, Windows saves all open programs on your hard drive and puts them on the computer in low power mode.

This solution on the desktop is interesting because it offers a faster restart of the computer and prevents the user from losing all his work in the event of a power failure, something that does not happen in Notebooks. Hybrid suspension, however, does not appear in the start menu and can be activated by common suspension.
