Table of contents:
The last few days have been difficult for Apple, mainly because several flaws have been discovered in some of its devices. While the company works to solve them, a very important news is announced. As of January 1, 2018, applications for Mac with 32-bit architecture will not be accepted in the official store. Something that already happened this year with iPhone and iPad. So it was actually predictable.
Apple will not accept 32-bit applications on Mac from January
So the Cupertino company makes a similar decision with Mac apps running on macOs High Sierra. So from January 1 they will have to be compatible with 64 bits. If they are not, they will not be accepted in the store. This is what Apple has communicated.
64-bit applications only
For those 32-bit applications that are already present in the official store, they have a time frame to upgrade to the 64-bit architecture. Apple gives them until June 2018 of time. If in that period they do not update the applications, then they will remove them from the official store. So the company is being very direct in this regard.
So, for all developers of mac applications, it is important that they only work with 64 bits already. Because it will be the architecture that Apple bets on at all times.
In the coming weeks this transition will begin to become a reality. We will see if existing applications update quickly or problems start to arise. What do you think of the company's decision?
