Set up the wds repeater function on a router
The WDS (Wireless Distribution System) function is very useful for those who need to expand the Wi-Fi network, but do not want or cannot pull cable. When activated, it allows another router to redistribute the wireless signal. In this tutorial, you will learn how to configure a TP-Link router to use WDS and run as a repeater. The model used was the WRN841ND.
Step 2 - If there is no conflict with the default gateway, change the IP of the router. Go to the LAN / WAN interfaces. Click on LAN and change the IP. Click save.
Step 3 - Now go and click on the wireless menu and enable WDS.
Step 4 - WDS configuration is enabled. Click browse.
Step 5 - All enabled networks are opened as an access point. Click connect on the network you want to extend the signal, that is, the network base.
Step 6 - When you click Connect they will appear as Mac address settings. Choose the type of encryption used on the first router and enter the password to access the network. Click save.
Step 7 - In the menu, click on the Wireless option and then the option on security. Configure for the same type of encryption and network core with the same password. Click save.
Step 8 - Now that there is no IP conflict, disable DHCP, so that only the primary router automatically distributes the IP address. In the menu, click DHCP, then Settings. Select the mobility option. Click save.
Done, your TP-Link router is ready to repeat the signal with the WDS function. If some problems like sudden signal drop, it may be necessary to configure the router - the repeater on the same channel and with the same SSID as the primary router. Also, in order for it to work perfectly, it is important that the repeater router is placed in a place where the signal from the main router is high.
