It has been a long time since the disappearance of SIM cards, or rather, their replacement by software-level solutions that make the portability process much simpler and easier for another operator. Now it is ARM that is interested in this change, the company is working on a solution that allows the SIM card to be integrated into its processors.

ARM wants to put the SIM inside the processor

T he solution proposed by ARM makes the SIM card be integrated in the device's processor, this is a solution to the procedures for portability but it poses other problems, since it would not be possible to remove said card in any way. With this it remains to be seen what would happen to the phone number in case we decide to sell our terminal, it is possible that it is allowed to change the number associated with the SIM card integrated in the processor, although this is only an assumption.

ARM has baptized this project as iSIM, this would be an important step forward for the Internet of Things since there would be no need to install a physical card in this type of device to enjoy network connectivity. Of course, it is also possible that it will end up being installed in the smartphones of the future, since it would mean a new level of use of the available space to allow more compact and lightweight devices.

Apple has been one of the first to make the move to integrated SIM cards, those from Cupertino use one of these cards on the motherboard of their Apple Watch Series 3 device with LTE connectivity.
