Asus would be working on a rog phone 'lite' model phone
Table of contents:
Asus caused a stir at Computex this summer when it introduced the powerful player- focused ROG Phone. Leveraging its leading brand of PC gaming, Asus unveiled a phone with a speed higher than that of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 range, a 3D GameCool steam chamber cooling system, and a detachable AeroActive cooler, backed by 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM. and 128GB or 512GB of UFS 2.1 storage.
Asus ROG Phone 'Lite' could cost around 600 euros
The phone was topped with a 6-inch, 90Hz refresh AMOLED HDR display with a 1ms response time.
Although we saw the Asus ROG Phone in a demo at Computex, it has not yet been released. Earlier this month it was spotted on a Finnish website with pre-orders starting at € 999. The current range of ASUS phones consists of the ZenFone 5Z (high-end), ZenFone 5 (mid-range), and ZenFone 5Q (or 5 Lite) models.
Documents recently uncovered and shared by Chinese regulator TENAA suggest Asus may be preparing a range of ROG phones for different budgets. In addition to the high-end 8GB version we saw at Computex, the documents indicate there will be variants with 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB of RAM. The processor options appear to remain the same with the 2.95 GHz SD845, as do the 128 GB or 512 GB storage options. However, the battery capacity appears to be less than that indicated on the Computex; a 3850mAh battery instead of a 4000mAh battery.
It will be interesting to see if Asus has made any other cost cuts to specs that are not documented by TENAA - changes in display type and specs, for example. Asus could cut the price down to $ 600, the Android Authority estimates, with a more modest new ROG Phone model. A good move, as long as it doesn't dilute the appeal of ROG and the characteristics of a player-focused phone remain.
