Asus g771 and g551

Asus has announced two new notebooks belonging to the Republic of Gamers (ROG) series, these are the Asus G771 and Asus G551 equipped with Intel Haswell processors and Nvidia GTX Graphics.

Both notebooks are based on Asus' own ROG series gamer design, have a matte black brushed aluminum finish with red diamond cut edges and the illuminated ROG logo on the lid.

The Asus ROG G551 has dimensions of 383 × 255 × 28-31.5 mm and a weight of 2.7 Kg and Asus ROG G771 415 × 280 × 30.4-35.6 mm and a weight of 3.4 Kg. They have a battery of 56 Wh lithium and a capacity of 5, 200 mAh.

Both mount Intel Core i5-4200H processors with two cores and four processing threads at a base frequency of 2.8 Ghz that goes up to 3.4 GHz with Turbo Boost and the Core i7-4710HQ quad-core and eight processing threads at a base frequency of 2.5 Ghz and 3.5 GHz with Turbo Boost. They have two SO-DIMM slots for DDR3L RAM memory supporting up to 16 GB. Graphics are provided by an Nvidia GTX 860M 2 or 4 GB GDDR5.

The Asus ROG G551 will be available with a 15.6- inch anti-glare screen with the option to choose a TN or IPS panel with a resolution of 1, 920 × 1, 080 or 1366 × 768 pixels. The ROG G771 will also have three types of 17-inch screens available with resolutions of 1920 x 1080 or 1600 x 900 pixels.

Regarding storage Asus offers for both a 750 GB, 1 TB or 1.5 TB mechanical hard drive at 5, 400 rpm or 750 GB or 1 TB at 7, 200 rpm, a 256 GB SSD is also offered for the G551 and a 128GB or 256GB for the G771. Asus will optionally add a 24GB SSD for caching on the G551 and a 256 or 512GB PCI SSD on the G771.
