Technical characteristics

The graphics card is protected in a robust and large cardboard box. Its presentation is fantastic when using the corporate colors of the ROG series: Red and black. In the upper area we have a handle and in the back all the technical characteristics and improvements of the Asus GTX 980 Ti Matrix Platinum.

Once we open the box we find a foamy protection that cushions any shock during transport to our home. The first look we already see the graphics card that comes sealed in a plastic bag and under it all its accessories . The bundle is made up of:

The Asus GTX 980 Ti Matrix Platinum has a size of 29.5 x 13.8 x 5.09 cm (length x height x width) and a fairly high weight, it occupies 2.5 slots in your equipment. I love the design they have chosen, the combination of orange, black and metallic colors give it a premium touch.

The card has more power phases than most motherboards on the market, with nothing more or less than fourteen and Super Alloy Power II technology. Among its benefits, the PCB has DrMOS technology, capacitors and high-performance Choke. All this together and we obtain 17ºC cooler and 9 dBA less noise than the reference model.

Overclockers should be in luck because it incorporates the " Memory Defroster " technology that prevents card freezing when using liquid nitrogen.

As power connections it has two of eight pins plus a MOLEX auxiliary (on the side).

As you can see in the following image we have the SLI bridge connection to connect it with multiple cards. Next to the connections we have a button that allows us to reflash the card's default values. This is fine for lovers of overclocking that modify by VBIOS.

First, the best possible image quality. The most important value for us is the average FPS (Frames per second), the higher the number of FPS, the more fluid the game will be. To differentiate the quality a bit, we leave you a table to assess the quality in FPS, but we will also have the minimum Fps in the tests that were thus possible:

Overclock and first impressions

We have increased the overclocking capacity by +100 which is 1283 Mhz with a boost of 1535 Mhz and memories up to 1760 Mhz. The improvement is really interesting, since it allows us to scratch several FPS, this I see well when using the graphics card with 2560 x 1440 or 4K resolutions.

Temperature and consumption

Having a higher performance than other cards does not always mean having worse temperatures and consumption. Consumption and temperatures have been verified by reading the maximum peak, passing the Metro Last Light benchmark 3 times, ideal for how demanding it is.

We have updated our table with the results of the GTX980 Ti Matrix Platinum and the result is as follows:

The Asus GTX 980 Ti Matrix Platinum has performed efficiently with a power consumption of 95W (all equipment in full) and a full load average of 315 W. In temperatures the performance has also been excellent with 29ºC at rest and 67ºC at maximum power.

Final words and conclusion.

The Asus GTX 980 Ti Matrix platinum from the Republic Of Gamer (ROG) series is the best graphics card on the market for its excellent build, dissipation, and performance. It has 6GB of GDDR5 memory, very high frequencies with a large overclocking capacity, a large DirectCU II heatsink, Memory Defroster and Windg-Blade technologies that make it unique in its kind.

To test its performance on our test bench we have mounted an i5-6600k at 4, 600 Mhz and the Asus Maximus VIII Extreme. The results have been incredible with all games in 1920 x 1080 quality (Full HD) we have exceeded 92 FPS (F1 2015). While in the 1440p configuration we have obtained an average greater than 60 FPS.

In short, if you are a lover of overclocking or the exclusive ROG series, this card is your perfect companion. It allows to do a good overclock, they have very good components and a 14-phase design that give a superior advantage to the rest of the graphic cards. Its store price will be slightly higher than the rest of the competition.
