ASUS MG24UQ Technical Specifications

Many of you will wonder what resolution you have or what is the best. The standard is the 1920 × 1080 also known as FULL HD, then we move on to the 2K screens: 2560 × 1440 and the last ones as the 4K 3840 x 2160.

This time we stayed in the most purchased resolution to date: Full HD. Where any user can enjoy high definition and in this case take advantage of all the gamer features of this monitor.

Unboxing and design

As expected Asus ships the Asus MG24UQ in a large and very heavy box so that the home set is perfect. On the cover is an image of the monitor seen from above and in large letters the model itself.

While on the back we have more information about product certifications.

Once we open the box we find the following inside:

  • Asus MG24UQ monitor. Power cord. Support CD. Warranty card. HDMI cable. Stand removed.

The Asus MG24UQ is the highest level that a monitor of less than 25 inches and with 4K resolution can reach. With the ideal screen size for this resolution: 23.6 inches at 3840 x 2160 pixels, it incorporates a refresh rate of 60 Hz.

We come across physical dimensions with a 556 x (392 ~ 542) x 276 mm base and a weight of 9.9 kg. While if you want to use a VESA 100 x 100 bracket on an articulating arm, its dimensions would be 556 x 332 x 58 mm. A very measured size for a 4K monitor.

Speaking of more technical characteristics, it is time to comment that it incorporates an IPS panel with a maximum brightness of 300 cd / m and a contrast ratio of 100000000: 1.

The viewing angles of the monitor is really impressive. We hardly have any light leaks and the black ones to be an IPS panel are really good. As always, we recommend you calibrate the monitor via hardware, but if you can't afford a calibrator, you can always try it via software.

As we have seen in other Republic Of Gamer (ROG) models, its aesthetics are almost perfect and its edges are quite representative, but not the best on the market. In the right area we find the OSD management panel and in the lower area centered in relief the Asus logo.

Among its rear connections we have two HDMI connections: version 1.4A and 2.0, a DisplayPort 1.2 and a 3.5mm Mini-Jack audio output. As expected we have a power plug and a Kensington blocker.

As we have already seen in other models, Asus has chosen to leave an internal power supply. I would have liked to see an external one because this way we avoid overheating the panel and all the internal PCB.

We will briefly explain what AMD Free-Sync technology consists of: Its operation is quite simple since it allows scenes to be faster, smoother and more pleasant when we are playing.

Really what AMD Free-Sync allows is to synchronize the refresh rate of the screen with the AMD graphics card of your computer, eliminating the tearing effect, minimizing jerks and input delay.

All this that we are telling you is Marketing pure and simple? No, in our test bench and several external people have been able to verify that the sensation of the game and the fluidity is superior. It is true that the Nvidia process is much more refined, but the sensations are really good on the first contact.

What does this monitor give me that others do not?

Among its novelties we find ultra-reduced blue light technology that protects against this type of light harmful to your sight, and allows us to adjust up to four levels. Do not forget about the important anti-flicker technology that improves the gaming experience and prevents eye strain, which is highly recommended for those users who are stuck playing for many hours.

I would also like to highlight the possibilities that GameVisual offers. From the factory it presents 6 profiles that allow adjusting to different common usage scenarios: FPS, sRGB, RTS / RPG, Cinema, Racing and landscapes.

Lastly, it should be noted that it incorporates the exclusive GamePlus technology that offers an improvement in the vision of games with its three profiles (Crosshair / Timer / FPS Counter / Screen alignment).

OSD menu

Its OSD menu is quite comfortable and we get used to it pretty quickly. It allows us to configure any value easily and intuitively: color tones, contrast, brightness, sRGB colors, profiles and other adjustments thanks to its fantastic 5-way navigation joystick.

We already knew it from other monitors and for now it is our favorite. Other brands choose an external complement, but in the long run they become a hindrance. Good job Asus!

Experience and conclusion about Asus MG24UQ

The Asus MG24UQ is one of the best monitors on the market with 4K resolution and a 23.6-inch screen. Its viewing angles, design and construction materials are some of the best we've tested. Also to highlight its wide variety of connections: DisplayPort, 2 x HDMI and 2W speakers.

In our experience the monitor has given the size in all our tests, we detail them below:

  • Daily use: Working with an IPS panel day after day is very comfortable. Magnificent colors, it does not harm or tire the eyes and the sensations are really good. For example, during 8-10 hours a day we have quickly got used to it. The same 24 inches is little (I come from a 27-inch 4K ROG panel). It is even more accentuated for those of us who edit audiovisual content and photo retouching, but it is a great option for this price. Multimedia: If you watch series, movies or YouTube in 4K the results are impressive. Although the rescaling of 720 and 1080 is quite good, the difference of the UHD definition is noticeable. For example, we can get a lot out of it by watching Netflix, which is one of the few digital media that offers quite a lot of content in this format. PC Games: Obviously one of its strongest points is the gaming experience. Although the panels behave great in gaming, the colors and the sensations that an IPS panel offers have no description. On a personal level, since I have an IPS panel I do not return to a TN or in dreams.

We hope that during this course and next year we will see a greater number of IPS 4K screens at 120 and 144 Hz. Although currently an Asus GTX 1080 Ti Strix perfectly moves the 3840 x 2160 resolution at more than 60 FPS… we will soon see graphics are sufficient potential for higher Hz numbers.

We have been very surprised by the price of the new Asus MG24UQ at 465 euros. And, currently, there are no cheaper 4K UHD monitors with such a good IPS panel and a response time of 4 ms. We believe it is one of the best investments, for those users who need a perfect image on a small screen size. A 100% recommended option for gamers and sybarite users .
