ASUS has been wanting to compete in the projector market for a while, and this time we focus on the ASUS P3B. One of its latest models to go on the market and that makes use of LED technology that is also prevailing in this type of product with the advantages and disadvantages that this brings.
We thank Asus for trusting the product for its analysis:
Asus P3B technical specifications
Design
The Asus P3B comes protected in a white cardboard box. On the cover we find a full-color image of the projector, while on the back all the most important technical characteristics.
Once we open the box we are inside:
- Asus P3B projector.Instruction manual and warranty card. Power supply and cable. Remote. Transport case.
At first glance, it should be noted about the Asus P3B something that was already talking about. Its small size, and is that it can almost be covered by hand. In essence its size is similar to that of a CD case. If we add to this that its weight is only around 750g, we are facing an ideal companion to move from one side to the other. However, this does not mean that the aforementioned device offers little. On the contrary.
The projector has multiple connections as can be seen on the back where we find an HDMI / MHL input, a VGA input to connect a PC, a USB 2.0 port, a MicroSD card reader, a microUSB port to access internal storage, the power input and, surprisingly enough, a USB output port to charge any device.
This is possible thanks to the internal 12000mAh battery that the projector has. An option that can be used with the Asus P3B on or off, in this second case it would be necessary to press a button also located on the back. This battery provides an estimated autonomy of 2 and a half hours of total ignition.
At the top we find a wheel on the lens to adjust the sharpness of the screen and 12 physical buttons among which are the on / off and various adjustments of screen size, brightness, volume, etc. Perhaps its use can confuse a bit at the beginning, but it is certainly a great success to have it available if the control is not close and the fact that they are not tactile, perhaps it detracts elegance but adds points of ease of use.
It should be noted from the front that the projector includes a cover to cover the lens attached to the housing. From the bottom of the device we highlight both its two-level kickstand, and we applaud it for its simplicity and utility, as well as a thin rubber line that will prevent the projector from slipping. Also in this part we find, as is usually normal, a screw for mounting a tripod.
performance
As is normal for projectors that make use of LED technology, the on time is only a few seconds and the cool down time is not an impediment to make a new use of the projector if required. In this respect, there is no variation with respect to other LED projectors. What ASUS has emphasized with this product is the projected screen size with just a few meters of shooting.
Placing the projector 1 meter from where we want to project, we get a 60-inch screen. However, if we place it at 3.5 meters, the screen we get is an incredible 200 inches. They are quite surprising and useful measures if you have a room or a room that is not very large, or if you want to place it closer but having the largest possible screen size.
In other sections, the projector does not stand out as much. In this aspect we can highlight for example the 800 lumens of brightness that it has, and that despite being better than that of previous models or other companies, it does not reach the level of other high-end LED projectors, let alone lamp projectors.. ASUS defends that it is the highest brightness it has achieved so far in its models, and certainly for the size it has, you cannot ask for much more today.
WE RECOMMEND YOU Intel Movidius: Artificial Intelligence on a USBIn an environment without light or with poor lighting, the quality of viewing and colors is optimal. Although in terms of color, the quality could be better and it is an aspect that should be improved for the next model.
In environments with more lighting, viewing becomes more difficult and sometimes it is difficult to appreciate the image, so it is not a recommended option for those situations.
Another aspect in which the Asus P3B limps is in its native resolution of 1280 × 800. A resolution more than enough for business and presentations. A maximum resolution of 1080p is missing, which would have resulted in a much more appealing product in terms of use as a media player. In the case of wanting to see a movie and not being fussy, the 720p of the Asus P3B will give a pretty decent result.
Other functions
The Asus P3B also has automatic keystone correction, which is always welcome and will make the image display correctly regardless of the angle at which it is placed.
The ASUS SonicMaster technology that we have already seen in computers in this case performs a good function with the sound, providing sufficient power and quality for any small or medium room and we have noticed distortion or artifacts during its reproduction.
conclusion
The Asus P3B is a perfect option for small presentations and its features provide a plus for your daily use. Another of its strengths is that it is easy to transport and has a multitude of connectivity options. Its weakest point is in terms of multimedia content if high quality is desired, since it is something that in this respect does not completely satisfy.
