Asus rog strix scope review in Spanish (full analysis)

Table of contents:

Anonim

The range of Asus keyboards has been expanded with the new creation Asus ROG Strix Scope. A mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX switches, clearly gaming with very tight edges and with a little difference from the rest, and that is that its left Ctrl keyboard is twice as large as usual. There is no shortage of lighting with RGB Asus AURA Sync technology and its management through the Armory II software.

We always thank Asus for their trust in us to give us their products for analysis.

Asus ROG Strix Scope technical features

Unboxing

Asus has wanted to update its family of ROG gaming keyboards, adding a new variant. This new Asus ROG Strix Scope is a mechanical keyboard that uses CHERRY MX switches, and is available throughout the range. In our case, we have obtained the one mounted by the Reds to see how they behave in this new peripheral.

As soon as we open the package we will know who owns this Asus ROG Strix Scope. We have a very colorful box with a black background and an all-seeing eye of Asus in RGB colors. You could also not miss a large photo of the illuminated keyboard and the credentials it keeps inside. Asus makes it clear in the presentation that its keyboard has been awarded by iF Design in 2019.

In the back area we have another photograph of the keyboard along with some brief information about it. Nothing that we will not know during this upcoming review.

The next thing we will do is open the box to find a foam protection in the first instance, and then the keyboard adjusted in a cardboard mold and covered by a black textile bag. The rest of the accessories will come in the lower and lateral area.

Then inside, we will find the following elements:

  • Asus ROG Strix Scope keyboard Set of four keys " A, S, D, W " and an extractor to operate them Two stickers with the Asus logo Instruction book for the user

In this case the USB cable cannot be removed from the keyboard. The available keys are designed in ergonomics for gaming, so we recommend their use.

Switch Mechanism

In the case of a mechanical keyboard, we have decided to place this information in the first instance for those interested exclusively in this field.

We know that Asus is not a manufacturer of switches, so it always goes to the one who knows best about switches for its keyboards, is none other than Cherry MX. This time we have the version with the Cherry MX Red RGB, beware, not the Silent variant. But if we prefer, we will also have the Asus ROG Strix Scope available with the other switches of the brand, that is, the Cherry MX Brown, Blue, Black, Silver and Silent Red. Full range, therefore, for those who prefer different ones.

The sensations offered by the Cherry MX Red RGB is that of an audible clickless switch with a linear, solid and highly responsive travel. We will have an actuation force of 45 grams with a 2 mm activation path. However, the total travel of the key will be 4 mm and has an activation tolerance of less than 0.01 mm. What does this translate to? Well, they are the fastest Cherry gaming switches ever created.

This makes them ideal for FPS games for the simple fact that they require a lot of keystrokes and at high speed. The presence of a soundless click makes them ideal for not interfering with the sound experience of the game. If you've already tried a Cherry Red switch, you will experience exactly the same feel with this RGB variant, a smooth, frictionless, fully linear, ride feel with no slack on its scroll rail. Perhaps at first you experience a hardness somewhat higher than 45 grams, but with the hours of use, the keyboard will gradually perform to the desired benefits.

Although they are classified as gaming switches, they are also recommended for fast writers who want a less noticeable actuation force than for example the MX Blue switches of 50-60g or the Green ones of 80g. In any case, this will depend on each user, so there is no fixed rule for the use of a switch either.

Asus ROG Strix Scope also features N-Key Rollover-type Antighosting on 100% of the keys and a polling rate of 1000 Hz, to provide a quick and independent response from all the keys we press simultaneously.

Design

Once we know what we are going to find in terms of keyboard sensations and switches, we turn to see the design and ergonomics of this Asus ROG Strix Scope keyboard .

Well, we are facing a clearly full-size keyboard with a QWERTY zone well differentiated from the rest, and of course available in perfect Spanish. In the central-right area, we will have the traditional interaction keys and cursors, while on the far right will be the numeric keyboard. At first glance, there is no doubt that the edges are actually designed to fit the key pad, although we still have free space between the “F” key row and the characters.

As for construction materials, luckily we have high quality aluminum finishes in the upper area, and also with a part finished in brushed aluminum. The rest of the elements, such as the lower area and the extendable legs, are made of hard plastic of considerable thickness, both in terms of touch and weight, which is around 1070 grams.

The measurements of the keyboard are 440 mm long by 137 mm wide, by 37 mm base height. They are very standard measurements both in length and width and somewhat shorter than others we have tried. Of course, never being low profile.

The sensations of the keyboard in terms of adaptation and position are exactly the same as other keyboards of the brand and practically any one. The dimensions of the keys are the standard ones and their elevation too, so the adaptation course will be instantaneous, except if we have never tried a mechanical keyboard.

If we place ourselves on the side profile plane, we will see how the edge lengthens downwards smoothly and at an angle of approximately 120 degrees. At no time does it reach the bottom as we see. The purpose of this edge is to provide better ergonomics for users who lightly rest their wrists or palms on the edge of the keyboard.

For users who write, this is probably not enough, and they need a good palm rest. In this case, Asus ROG Strix Scope does not have wrist rests, something that many should be aware of.

Something that a priori strikes us too much is that the right Ctrl key is twice as big as it normally is. This is supposed to allow us better control with the little finger for when we need to duck or cover the character, a typical key for games. So we are also avoiding accidentally hitting the "Windows" key. Good idea from Asus, although we haven't discovered america here either. To this we add the 4 available gaming keys.

The presence of double-function keys could not be missing in the entire “F” line. These keys can be modified depending on the Armory II software. We highlight the function of the "F12" key, which gives us the possibility of leaving the desktop completely clean with a single press. In this way we will hide open applications and mutate the audio that is being played. A key that will undoubtedly give us great advantages on a daily basis.

In case we did not have enough with this competitive advantage, we also have the possibility to control the lighting system in both animation and brightness modes from the keyboard itself, with the double function of the arrow keys. No need to use software.

With the "Alt Gr" key we can also perform quick macros "On The Fly" to configure the actions in full action if we wish. Asus knows what it does, and offers us interesting proposals in terms of accessibility and gaming configuration, not for nothing Asus ROG Strix Scope carries the surname ROG.

In the lower area we also have a cable router to pass it, either through the side areas or through the front area. A peculiarity of this keyboard is that the connector is in the lower area and quite well protected from external action such as shocks and frontal objects. The available cable is 1.8 meters and twisted.

We go on to see in more detail the lower part, which is made of hard plastic and has up to six soft rubber feet for support. It really shows when we are typing, to the silence of the switches we add the great stability, hold and isolation of this keyboard.

If we prefer, we can also increase the inclination of the Asus ROG Strix Scope using its two front legs. These only allow one position, giving us an extra two centimeters of elevation.

Unfortunately, in this case we have not had access to its configuration by software. Because it will be available in mid-April for sale, we were unable to access the drivers for the review. In any case, the management of this is exactly the same as for example the Asus ROG Claymor Core or similar. Definitely:

  • Asus AURA Sync software for specific lighting management and synchronization with other Asus devices. Asus Armory II for key management, functions, settings, macros and also lighting.

Final words and conclusion about Asus ROG Strix Scope

As always, we have had this Asus ROG Strix Scope for several days to test it as much as possible and thus have a solid opinion of it. Too bad we have not been able to have the software and drivers to make use of this customization, although it will be the expected and identical to the ROG Claymore Core, that is, quite complete.

Regarding the design, we have a fairly standard keyboard, although full of Asus personality, with aluminum finishes on the top, Asus type characters and a very measured height that makes things easier when accessing the keys and playing, especially those of us who are used to wrist rests.

Personally, I like these switches, both for playing and for writing. They are very fast, with little activation path and no sound. It is a very quiet set, thanks in part to the 6 lower rubber feet. In any case, there is something for everyone, since Asus has the full range of Cherry switches for this keyboard.

We recommend reading the best keyboards on the market

RGB lighting is very well implemented, and thanks to AURA we can customize it at any time, and also from the keyboard itself. Something that is missing in this regard is the interaction of games with lighting. Then we have multimedia keys in abundance and that interesting key to protect our privacy. Everything will be customizable through Armory II.

Asus ROG Strix Scope we will have it available in the market in mid-April for a price of 139.99 euros. More or less is expected in a keyboard of these characteristics, with full configuration and total customization. We can say that it is a somewhat high price, but certainly a great purchase option for demanding players, so, for our part, it is highly recommended.
